Has anybody successfully made use of the VDD Mod kit from coolmods.com?

It worked

I had a successful VDD Mod with the mod kit from coolmods.com. I've set my vdd to 1.8v, and finally got my 8RDA+ to 200FSB - before it was only doing 185MHz.

I was a bit skeptical about the grabber, but I've positioned it in such a way that my video card is holding it up. I doubt it will fall off unless the computer case is badly shaken.

The only thing is that the adhesive on the resistor is a bit weak, and I've had to add masking tape in its place - not sure whether it will hold in the long run.

But for now, happy with the results.

So let me get this right. From what i've seen in the pic at coolmods, you just stick the grabber on the chip leg and scew the other end onto a mobo mounting hole?? Or does it bridge 2 legs of the chip

How well constructed is it? Would you be happy to take the case to a LAN party? im thinking of Vdd mod, but i dont have a soldering iron, nor am i competant with one and this option means i can remove it if i dont want it

TIA

From what I can tell it looks like it uses the screw hole as ground rather that the other leg of the chip.

Thats what i thought. But in the explainations of VDD mod i have seen you bridge 2 pins on the chip.

This is the method I used by soldering a fixed resistor to the chip, the coolmods method does work but of the instances that ppl have killed their boards its been ones that have used the screw hole as ground and maybe detached and shorted the board?

The kit is only available in the UK, but they ship the US. It cost me about $19.

Only one connection is made to the leg of the chip with the grabber. The other end is simply grounded into the motherboard where you screw the motherboard to the case.

Once the grabber is held in place, you do have apply a little pressure to try to pull it off without loosening up the grabber. However, I wouldn't trust it to stay on if i were to carry the case around to a LAN party. I would always do a check every time the case was moved or shaken in any way. But if the grabber has a nice grip on the leg, it does stay on ok.
