Questionable? The whole shebang is questionable. Ask not, so ye may receive. Wait a minute, does that make sense? Lords, ladies, commoners, when you're a Member you are entitled to a FREE case badge from AOA, won't you send me a Private Message so that you can receive YOUR own badge? Thank you ever so much.

Try to remember that time in September... how does the rest of that go? For some reason, Robert Goulet comes to mind. Don't want to diss anyone in particular, so I'll bow out before I get into trouble. There's no need to fear, Underdog is here. Anyone seen that movie? Does it bite?

Just love that insurance co's gecko. He's just so cute and down to earth, don't cha think? Wait until you hear it making mating calls in the middle of the night. Hoo-hoo, raise the hair on the back of your neck, yes it will in the pitch black. Chased one around the hootch with a baseball bat one hidious night long ago. I sincerely hope that I didn't get him or her, they're harmless and eat bugs. Another black mark on my soul if I did.

Looks like we're entering a recession. Oh joy, oh rupture. Yep, it's stagflation. Millions dissed Carter for it, how many will dislike the president we are blessed with now for it? Whoops, dislike is treason. So I just loves me some Mr Bush!

Crikey, speak of the devil, that very gecko graces the top of my present page. Bruddah, if that's the response we see because I mentioned the little buggers name... life will proceed into regions of hell unplumbed by our formothers. No, I'm not joking.

It's Howdy Doody time, yes and it's sublime, yadda. Whooee, you gotta be old to remember that. Speaking of, I turn (garbled in transmission) tomorrow. Wish me luck, thank you very much!

What's the slowest bit-rate you've ever seen while downloading? I got down to 8 or 6 bps once while DLing from Asus in Taiwan. Should have stopped and tried later--shuh! The glory of dial-up.

Now I remember it clearly, it was 6 or 4 bits per second. If there's a worse rate than that, I don't want to know!

Maybe you're not old enough to have had to call in on a 300 baud tornado..

I can remember A friend taking 2 hours to fill a floppy when downloading from AOL, back when they were in their first two or three years...

Lol.. American Online Lamers... Why doesn't that surprise me ?..

I was there, when it all started way back when.. there wasn't a WWW. The local hackers community made it possible to get on the net... well.. Net... you had to write your own login script, and IF u managed to get online, you ended up in a Unix environment.. What a way to learn Linux.. there was a sort of web based email, B/W of course, that you could use.. and that was basically all.

Files you downloaded from your local BBS... When ?... round 1981-1984 ?...

I didn't join the fraternity until the summer of 1995. Baud was before my time. I just can't imagine--dial-up was plenty slow enough!

Still.. it was damn fun though.. okay.. i spend a lot of hours with coffee, cola, end those special green, gold and glorious cigarettes, cursing on that damn script.. cursing on Unix, ect. till deep in the night.. Until my girlfriend came see if i didn't die.. but man, what a feeling when u finally got it done.. and Telemate (a DOS call in proggy) i think it was.. started up.. on the net.

So it was slow..but remember that u didn't know that at the time, and it was pretty amazing that you could send an email to the USA.. and get an reply in like 15 min.. no post office could ever beat that..

If you hear Data in startrek say that his memory is 4 Gigaquad.. on 4 trillion Ghz or something.. I curse my 2 terrabyte... but hey..

In 1985 i got my first cable modem.. and was 24/7 online.. with all of a 2.40 MB that gave me super-speeds of 25kb/sec down.. if i was lucky. because you needed to share the bandwidth with the rest of the block that was online with the same ISP.. but since there was only 1 ISP.. well... that could on bad days slow ur download to a grinding halt. and there were enough bad days...

Now i got a 20 MB ADSL2 line, that i will be laughing about in like 10-20 years.. but such is time.. and progress.. isn't it ?..

Wow! you shook some memories loose! I just remembered my very first online experience. I forget how I contacted him... But I had to call his house and talk to him to ensure I wasn't a minor. Then he gave me details to connect... there were two people online, One was the guy I talked to! Obviously long time friends....and me.... boy did I feel feel like the only guy to show up at a party!

Didn't go online again for several years! LOL!

Being the only one to show up at the party of some nice girl, isn't all that bad you know... It opens perspectives you otherwise would never have had. Obviously, you scored points already just by being there...

Not online for a long time ?...

Why not ?... wasn't it exhilarating ?... I remember realizing i was standing actively at the feet of something big... and i was exited like hell.. I wanted to be there as fast as i could.. before too many others. And I think i was.. Okay.. so I was alone, my first time on the net.. But i didn't care.. just like the explorer of some strange undiscovered land, trying all kinds of cmd's to see if they would work.. I felt like some sort of digital Indiana Jones.. Lol.

And looking at the Internet now. i think i even underestimated it... but at least i was there, perhaps only a tiny grain of sand in a desert.. But i know for sure that i was in some kind of way, helping to pave the path to whatever it is now.. for the masses...

A tiny grain then was really a pebble of at least stinging dimensions. Kudos to the pioneers!

For me that arrived a few years later. My first experience was just a IM type bulletin board, there was no place to go, if you didn't already know how to get there, no graphics, just a screen and a cursor... I was underwhelmed...":O}

Then Windows 3.1 or was it 95(?) arrived and things got very much better for a noob.I started finding hardware sites, I had just bought a commputer and wanted to know a bit about it... the first thing I learned? I had a slow one! LOL
