A brown study, a pregnant pause, a jaundiced eye. While I'm not absolutely sure what these hackneyed phrases mean, they have the advantage of being free. Christmas shopping sure isn't!

Don't know the first one...

The Second: A pause into which all present wait for something to be born into the situation.

The Thrid: a jaundiced eye, is to be looked upon or to look upon at thing with a evil and unhealthy manner.

I see an English judge gazing unfavorably upon someone in the dock, for a jaundiced example. The wig and all gives it more meaning than in a less formal American court.

A brown study, this one I don't know well enough to give a definitive example. Perhaps it means gazing inward, contemplating an unpleasant subject.
C'mon cloasters, where are some examples of happiness?
A dim bulb hopping in glee at winning a round on The Wheel of Fortune?

Giddy with holiday fever?

Upon reflection, I seem to recall this phrase a bit better...I'm pretty sure that at one point it was believed you could contract Jaundice by being looked upon by such an eye.

So it was also a "withering gaze."

Once in a blue moon. Blue moons occur when the moon is full twice within one month. Happens every two years plus change.

So you pretend to be ignorant? With that question, maybe I should too! Manifold blessings upon your house and all who sail in her.

The most wonderful time of the year. Why knock it? Going with the flow of good cheer is good policy, even for misanthropes!

La la la, lah la la la. Name that tune! One ruble to the winner! Or the equivalent value in a different currency. Don't be shy, clear your throat and give it a try!

The theme music for the Banana Splits. How easy was that? Youngsters, what do they know? More than I did at their age, it's a more and more complicated world. The Earth is still round, innit?

I forgot my step-brother. Oh dear, fireworks may explode in the Loz Angeles area soon enough. Crikey, I'd rather not make up for my unconscionable slip of consciousness by purchasing something really expensive.

Saved by the bell, all gifts are on their way. "Gift" in German means poison, curious that. Wait a minute, who really needed to know that? Happy Christmas and a great Kwanza to all!

I got lucky and had a wonderful Christmas. A great change of pace from Thanksgiving, which I spent alone. I hope we all had a good day, it's so nice to recharge the batteries with good will and bonhomie!

You say you're short of goodwill toward your fellow bipeds? Don't feel too bad about it, it's hard to come up with in these best of all possible times. If you struggled to dredge some up my hat's off to you, well done!
