Buy now, or wait? But for what? I see newegg has 8rda+ for $85 now, but i also see people waiting for a new board. Is it worth buying now or save and buy later? |

The future is 64 Bit, which will start to come mainstream near the end of the year. A new stepping of 8RDA+ is a good choice bearing in mind that it will probably have a new stepping NB which may do 230Mhz with default Vdd but to increase Vdd would need some modding. Its the cheapest nForce2 from Epox. It has basic features. There are some new nForce2 south bridges coming with on chip SATA, probably soon.

If your a half decent solderer and dont need sata get an 8rda+ If you need sata or cant solder get an 8rda3+ If you wait for Athlon 64 you will be waiting 6 months + and paying out ALLOT when they first release.

I've had my VDD mod attached for months now with SMD grabbers and haven't had a problem... As long as you are careful when moving the case and don't hit the case you will be ok with SMD grabbers if you feel the urge to do the VDD mod... ![]()

it's easy if you have a sturdy hand... My hand is far from steady, i even bought the soldering items at my local Radioshack but when I tried i noticed how much I would shake and decided to stick with the SMD grabbers... ![]()

Talking about Athlon 64, what it will bring to us? Are there any proofs that we will get some gains from it? Games faster, divx encoding faster ... or not?

if its on the gaming scene as good as the opteron on the server scene, then I dont think u should doubt to much. I wish they come out at 3ghz or something as a starting point atleast, and not 1.6ghz, which is Slow!! ;-)
