8RDA3+ freezes

hi
i have a strange problem with this board.
every time i copy some files around or simply watch a video it freeze/hangs after some minutes.
but if i run things like burnin-tests or other benchmarks it doesn't
so i can't figure out what causes the problem.

bios is still the first one
barton 2800+
2x256mb GeIL Ultra ddr400 (running in dual-mode@333)
120g seagate
radeon 9000
420w psu
(all new and default timings)
w2k

any ideas?

(and please excuse my bad english )

Make sure memory is running in SYNC or 100% of FSB, not at SPD, relax memory timings to 7-3-3 at cas 2.5, add some voltage to the memory from 2.5 default to 2.63 volts, retest.

thanx
ram already runs sync (166mhz).
timings are 6-3-3 cas 2 and 1.63v <-geil recommend that.
(if its set to spd it will run at 200mhz and cas 2.5)

but i will test relaxing it more.
i will also try the latest bios..or should i leave the current one?

i've testet some things now:

relaxed ram .. crash
dual/single-mode .. crash
incrased/decrased voltages .. crash
underclocked cpu .. crash
swaped dimms around .. crash
replaced gfx .. crash

i run prime95 and it immediately crashes.

sandra benches run fine
3dmark too ..never freezed here.

i really dont know what to do yet

This seems to be a common problem for those that have problems with this MB. Mine is on the way, and I fully expect it not to work right out of the box. On the other hand, I might be lucky (but I'm usually not)

Try to use relaxed timings like cl 2.5 and sync the fsb and memory it might help and also update the bios it has some nice fixes in it. Gl with it!

I had the same problem with my 8RDA3+ and my JIUHB DLT3C 1700+.
I could finish ALL benchmarks except of Prime95.
But even at idle times, it crashed!
I tried everything just like you!
So the only thing that i could try , was a different CPU.
I put on my old PALOMINO 2100+ , and since then it NEVER crashed and finishes Prime95 with NO errors!
Now i have to test my 1700+ cpu on a different motherboard to see if there is any problem with the cpu!
I don't think so, but there may be some "cpu" compatibility problems? TOO WEIRD!

Try a different cpu and check! Try an old PALOMINO if you still have one!

if there are compatibility problems with this board and an athlon cpu, then the range of the affected cpu's could be a big one because prime95 freezes the system for me as well. maybe kingston ram is at fault (at least one stick was bad but hope that the new ones will work better), but putting in a generic ddr333 ram, caused prime to freeze windows anyway even at factory settings (fsb 166, cpu 166x11). Upped voltage a bit, and then prime run fine for a couple of hours. I was forced to reboot the system later, started another run of prime... and bang!!! windows froze again. I might speculate about prime95 incompatibility with this board, as discussed in some other threads here, but I don't want to blame this software for being bad, rather it's still a hidden part of my setup which still causes all these problems.

it might be also my psu is causing this (noticed sometimes the 12 V line drop to 11.8), so I'm planning to go for an antec true power, then we'll better see where the beast sleeps.

i just got a hint in another forum..

now ive set the cpu to agressive and vcore to 1,7v
and that seems to do the trick..
no freezes and prime is running too!

im still testing...rock solid so far

updated the bios before and did lots of other stuff without luck.
lets hope my prob is finally solved now.
thanx
