bought a new epox 8rda3+ n still it freezes.

just been doin some testing, it seems theres something fishy with the memory, as ive just updated to the latest bios n it produces errors in a different place now with memtest86 instead of near the end it occurs around 70% through. weird.

im running xp3000+ now xp3200+ tested same thing happened.
im also running geil golden dragon pc3500 memory. corsair xms3500 before.

I agree, there is something VERY fishy about the way this mobo deals with the memory. I can bench 3dmark up to 230ish fsb at stock VDD, but anything over 210fsb will give me instant failures in Prime95. Super PI will pass 1, 4, 8, 16, and 32mb tests with no problem up to 225 (I think; maybe 220). Go figure.

Very anoying. How do you know when you've got a completely stable system???

ive decided the problem definately is with the memory. with the new bios i get far less errors with memtest86 but nearly all of um are in test5 a few in test6, no matter what setting, 166 or 200fsb, with the older bios it would give thousands of errors in test7.

I'm hoping that it's just because the board is still quite young, and that further bios releases will cure the problem. I'm not hoping for a myrical cure, just some sort of acknowledgement that there may just be an issue with the way the memory is handled by the mobo.

I'm not knocking EPoX at all, so please no-body flame no or quote the rules. EPoX are on to a winner with the 8rda3+, just a problem here and there that need attention. I'm aware that the mobo is only "supported" up to 200fsb, and anything over-and-above is a plus for its users, but I've seen users not even reach 200fsb with the same problems.

Please look into this ET, Holst etc. Tell us if we're going mad, missing something obvious, or just expecting too much.....

I'm going to have to add to the list. I can hit 225 and run 3dm2001. Prime and FAH crash immediately. I thought I'd killed the cpu to start with but tonight I swopped in an XP1700, then an XP2400, ran both at stock. That's with corsair XMS3500, and both crashed in FAH. The 1700's back into my 8K3A+ which I'm using just now. I'm going to put my 8rda back in to test the 2500, but not tonight

dod,

Thanks for saving me the trouble of putting my 1600+ back in to see if the problem would go away (same probs everybody else is having).

I guess they're aware of the probs as many people are talking about it.

I don't have the money to void my warrenty by sticking new heat sinks on everything from nothbridge to mosfets and cutting pins to eliminate OVP and stuff like that.

Just want my kids to play a game without hearing them say "daaaaad, the computer's messed up." Then listen to my wife about the money I spent to "upgrade."

Sorry, just a little frustrated.

Why do you keep avoiding this post ET? Several people with the same problem want some input, even if it's just to put us in our place.

C'mon ET, please???

That's OK. I like Epox and they have always had great support (inspite of the fact they appear to be dealing with this problem with a 10 meter pole) but I just asked for a refund on my board. I couldn't wait any longer or the warranty would expire.

I'm back on my 8K3A+ now, which seems to like the new Geil PC3500 I bought for the RDA3+. I used to have Corsair XMS3000 in it and it would not allow anything higher than optimum. Now I can run it at Turbo without any probs. The k3A+ did not like my 2500+ Barton however. I may need new bios for it to work.

Who knows, maybe they'll come out with a new revision and all kinks worked out of the 8RDA3+ and I'll try again.
