Talking 8RDAE new 'non ultra' 400 chipset live test

i have the new 8RDAE on test for the weekend. most noticable features includede a three slot implementation of the nforce2 400 (non ultra) chipset, 4pin power connecter, southbridge heatsink and vdd adjustment in the bios. omissions for this version in the series include com ports on the header, lan and firewire. the board is stamped 0317 on the back of the pcb which i take as a week 17 2003.
i have a brand new week 23 AIUHB SPIW xp2000+ running at 11.5x200 on air so far. also some 4.3 nanosecond hynix and some hyperx3500 and some valueram ddr400 with winbond-bh5 hips. sandra scores 3027-2774 with the hyperx at optimal 8-3-3-2.0 at 200fsb. i will of course be pushing the components to their limits over the weekend

full specs - any questions

hyperx3500 dimm 2&3 - stable 1hour prime95 (testing 228fsb as i type this)unable to pass 233 at any multiplier. all the memory will boot fully and prime a second or two at 233. major aircooling of the stock heatsink and mosfets had no impact and this shot was taken with only one quite fan on the cpu.
any hot tips appreciated.

kinda poor bandwidth - you should rather check what this baby can do in DC - for I beat that score easily even at 221 DC (about 3440/3235).
How much Vdd are you using to get 228 SC stable?
My 2 Month old C1 does 228 in SC w/ stock Vdd.
Try DC with the BH5 - a Vdimm mod might help you to get to >230 DC @6-2-2-2 fully stable.
Now, what more can the CPU do?

it is a new single channel only chipset (your bandwidth SC???) i have tried all the memory. maybe i'll have to get some of that new hyperx ddr500 soon or maybe it will burn in. the cpu wont quite do 2400 with the 2700rpm cooler i have.

edit - survived 1.5hours at 228fsb. it wouldn't do 230 earlier so i'll leave it at 229 overnight and see what she can do in the morning.

oh damnit its an 8RDAE... my bad, dind't see it - then your mem scores are quite good!
I think my 8RDA+ is a bit slower in SC - however, the 8RDAE is still no match for the 8RDA+ running DC...
again, what Vdd do you use for that 228 FSB?

1.8vdd. i tried 2 but no difference. it just failed 229 in 5 minutes so the overnight burn is going to have to be 228. i'll try a bigger psu later or maybe swop in a new week 11 8RGA+.

yeah well... might as well be the ram crapping out... I assume 2,9V is max. Vdimm for that board, too?
Remarkable result anyway

Thats quite good for slow timings.

It would be interesting to see some P4 type high timings high speed memory in there to see the max FSB

the hynix runs at weird optimal timings like 10-5-4-3.0. it is weaker than both types of kingston at 8-3-3-2.5 and only rated ddr400.

okay. swopped the 8RDAE from the above pic for an 8RGA+ on the bench. a quick look confirms that even in single channel the 8RDAE has as much bandwidth as the 8RGA+ in dual channel. so this new nforce400 single channel chipset has been tweaked to give plenty bandwidth without the cost and issues associated with running dual channel boards. quite an achievement if you ask me. cpu overclocking seems easier on the 8RDAE but get a very good copper heatsink as you'll likely need at least 1.75 vcore before the fun really starts.

conclusions are that both boards seem issue free even with 2x256mb of hyperx3500. vdd adjust, 4pin power connector and southbridge heatsink now extends accoss the full spectrum of new EPoX nforce2 boards including the new non ultra nforce400 range.

both boards may well have been unable to reach 233fsb sync because of the memory available for the test

8RGA+ @ 225fsb dual channel sync

That should keep a few people quiet!!

Now get some bencies from it - I think the only thing you will see suffer is perhaps something like Nature in 3DMK2K01SE330.

(Holst - KT600 SATA'd up at 200FSB and gained 1,000 3DMarks slack timings - more to come)

But its true, I just lowered my timings to 8-3-3-2,5 running 10x225 DC - and the 8RDAE beats it in Sandra score with about 10 points!
Impressive.
However, this 8RDA+ here can do 225 easily in DC with stock Vdd

Nice one

SATA is woking OK then?

So whats the max that board will do FSB wise then, slow timings and 2.9v id expect 220+ from the ram.

Carefull not to corrupt your new HDD :P
