Corrupt downloads?...8RDA+

New system. 2500+ Barton, 8RDA+ 3609, Corsair XMS PC2700 512 x2, Maxtor 200MB ATA133.

Used Maxtor's format disk, fresh SP SP1 install, all updates run. NVidia 2.03 drivers (Tried both with and without their IDE drivers, fresh installs each time). I get no scandisk errors.

I get downloaded file errors, and CRC checksum errors. Most downloads do not work. Same file downloaded on my other boxes work fine.

BIOS IDE settings are default, "optimized" settings, ran it OCd and totally stock as well. Different IDE cables same result. I did every possible "normal" troubleshooting thing I could think of.

I can't figure it out. Storage gurus don't think it's the Maxtor, so I am asking you Epox gurus What BIOS setting is the culprit? Is the onboard LAN messed up? Thanks.

In bios, change memory setting from SPD to 100%, relax memory timings to 7-3-3 at cas 2.5 and retest.

That usually happens when you have a virus, do a scan.

Try to download a zip file and if it's not corrupt then you have a virus.

Norton says I'm clean These are various files I've downloaded that are corrupt....zips, rars, .exe's.
Most from "reputable" sources like M$.

Odd thing is, once I finally get something installed, it works great! It's just the downloads that are corrupt.

golfer49, I'll try that. I hope that is not it, my Corsair is rated 2-2-2-5. Running synch at that right now. Memtest86 had no errors, either.

How do you connect to the net?

Does this still happen with large file copies ?

Well, it's always worth checking everything out. I know I had some viruses which made all my downloads corrupt.

cable modem, thru a router, so all my boxes download the same way, essentially. Downloads work on my other boxes.

Large and small The 180MB 3DMark .exe file was corrupt, as was some smaller apps that I cannot recall.

Office SP1 was fine, SP2 was corrupt.

DO you use any download managers or anything.

If not your looking at a Lan or IDE problem.

Are you using the Nvidia IDE drivers ?

What Nforce drivers are you using ?

No dl managers. No need to, have a fat pipe
2.03 (latest) NVidia drivers, happens wtih and without their IDE drivers (I did fresh installs each way).

I plan to swap routers/cat5 cables tonight and tweak the bios, in other words fiddle until I break something

robbie, I turned up the Corsair voltage to 2.9. Kept it at 2-2-2-5, but changed "turbo" to whatever else isn't turbo, can't recall. heh.

I'm putting in another vote for RAM timing. Seems like the only way things would be corrupt on this type of regular basis is if the data that is constantly being slapped in and out of RAM is being corrupted. I don't see it happening On the incoming pipe (If indeed it is broad and clean), and not on the HDD. Everything points to wacky RAM.

Try and relax it waaaaay down, everything, including clock speeds. Then see if you can get it stable, then work back up.

yeah I pulled my hair out trying to figure this one out as well. I was ALMOST convinced that it was a virus. I mean if the mem is bad I'd probably get blue screans or instablity or something right?!?!?! I mean come on.....

Anyways, glad you got it working.

Tired now Will shoot for 200FSB in am, but I only have PC2700, may not make it. hehe, but that is the fun part now isn't it!
