8k3a doesnt detect 2700+

i switch my old 1800+ for a 2700+ and updated the bios to version 3409, but it only detected a 2100+. even with the beta bios 3414 nothin changed.
When i edit the fsb from 133MHz to 166MHz the pc only restarts after reseting the bios.
Can anyone help me to get this cpu working right?
btw i´m using PC2700

And i have another question. The jumper "CPU Host Clock Select" on the motherboard, should it be 100MHz or 133MHz?

Thank for helping a bios newbie :-)

Greetings
Fiz

The cpu host clock jumper should be set at 133 FSB, anytime you install new cpu, reboot, go into bios, and LOAD OPTIMIZED DEFAULTS, save and exit bios, it should now recognize your cpu correctly.

Yeah that's it. You should have had it set on 133 for your xp1800 too.

Let it boot then go into the bios and set the fsb to 166.

Your problem sounds very common for someone attempting to overclock... even though you aren't.

A few possible issues...
Power draw - more speed, requires more power. What PSU are your using, and what does your 5v line look like when running 133fsb.

Memory sticks - what kind of timings do you have them set for? Start with relaxed timings at 166mhz.

Temps - check your CPU temp to make sure it is not overheating.

I am not sure what a PSU is, but if its my tower, then i have a 350W tower. Should be enough i hope.
The 5V line is around 4.95V all the time.

The memory sticks i tried with different settings (normal, fast, ..)

The CPU temp is around 51C/123F with the new beta bios.

If i wasnt sure, i would think someone sold me an 2100+ instead of an 2700+
