Smile 8KRA2+ live field test. 2400mhz on air

i have an 8KRA2+ for review. it goes back in about 36 hours. it is running an fx5600 and 2x256 kingston hyperx3500. so far it has a 1533mhz dlt juihb 0320 wpmw @ 1.85vcore doing 2400mhz under a volcano7+. tested for half hour under prime. it failed until i boosted the cooling. these dlt's get really hot at high vcore. no time for more as the fsb is still at 200 and needs some work tonight.
so far it seem like a smooth overclocker. the multipliers above 12.5 are open for a change. nice one EPoX. also the winbond voltage monitoring seems much more accurate than on the nf2 range. some strange things coming from the complicated 2 page memory setup. ie both valueram3200 and hyperx failed using spd. in other words i had to tighten the timings before 3dmark stopped crashing. cpuz and the bios report different things and some settings don't seem to take. this could be cpu-z's problem or the new bios might help.
any other input on memory timings and kt600 would be nice. ???

sandra memory at 11x200 equals 2907 with the cpu speed set to fast and the romslip is set to ultra (also bank inteleave was on). these three settings made a difference. imho use them. will report 3dmark scores soonish. the default speeds of the fx5600 are 270/550. might test it a little too. just over 10000 3dmark2001 so far with cpu at 11x200. will also test the agp card in an 8RGA+ for comparison later. will post some screenshots for clarity as soon as my server is cookin again.

discussion welcome.

edit: after clearing cmos spd settings are working on the valueram. will remember to clear cmos on brand new boards from now on.

If I was reading a review of the board I would like to see how high the FSB can go. Is there any problem with the 1/6th divider running 200Mhz+? What the sandra memory benchmark is at 200 *12 for this board compared to an nforce2 board running the same speed.

a little bit of tweaking and 233fsbx10 so far. completed 3dmark and prime stable. i don't know how the hard drive made it considering its age. was having trouble but i changed to agp4x and disabled some agp3.0 timing thing as well as taking up vdimm. now all i've got to do is figure out which to turn back on. EPoX Tech was right when he said it likes high fsb. i can so it is true even under load. i'm very impressed so far. none of the (plenty) nforce2 EPoX board can match this fsb as far as i can see. maybe the extra cooling i'm using this time has given this board the edge. i will swop all componants into an 8RGA+ later and see what comparisons can be drawn.

I believe fast writes is an option to turn off if in doubt (ati cards at least).

ran out of time. bandwidth is higher on nf2 compared to kt600. the fx5600 would have been faster on the nf2 given same fsb. however none of the nf2's that crossed my desk have managed 233fsb like the 8KRA2+ did using the exact same bh-5 valueram ddr400.(the nf2's invariably failed to run prime even for a few seconds at 233fsb) also cpu overclocking on the 8KRA2+ was a pleasure up to 1.85vcore. hopefully the new bios sorted the bios not responding to higher vcore. (not multimeter tested) 3dmark 2003 had issues but i don't know why.
can you say 'full featured' mainboard?

Nice test! Thanks for sharing.

It's more or less what I expected: can handle high FSBs better than nForce2 (I really don't trust these nForce2's at higher then 200fsb). I think the performance difference between both of them at the same FSB can be "matched" with new BIOS and/or different memory settings.

Imagine what this board can do with better memory??

If only they had heatsink mouting holes... I'm on a home-made watercooler and I certainly do NOT intend to go back to turbine-like cooling. Watercooling is one way, you can't go back after you got one going. Even my dad wants one after he saw the noise difference.
