8RGA+ Problems!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi:
I just purchased a new Epox 8RGA+ and 2X256mb Buffalo PC3700 from NewEgg for my XP1700+ 0319. After downloading and installing the newest I find after much trial and error that the maximum FSB I can achieve with this acclaimed high overclocking motherboard is just 205 and that is with the most relaxed memory timings, CPU Voltage of 1.7 for this chip dislikes high voltages, memory voltages of 2.9v and chipset voltage of 1.8v. For someone familiar with this motherboard, is my problem the motherboard itself or the memory? If it is the memory, what is your recommendation for PC 3200 memory chips that can achieve over 220FSB at low latencies.
Thanks

Send a message via ICQ to golfer49

Do you have a active cooling fan on the northbridge? Passive cooling on the southbirdge? What video card? etc.

I suggest that it is your memory that is your problem. It is of general acceptance that PC3700 ram is better suited to INTEL systems.

I currently have some twinmos with ch-5 chips that does 215fsb, but wont go any higher. If you can get some bh-5 chipped ones, these seem to go a little higher.

However, I'm saving for some Corsair XMS3500 cl2 which I have seen people running 225+ fsb on NF2 systems. This is quality ram at a premium price! Hence why I'm saving!

Good luck anyway,
Blackmyst

Thing is, the buffalo 3700 do have BH-5 windbonds.The 3200 CH-5.

Im afraid that its the vcore if your not giving it more juice.
On my RGA+ i have seen stable FSB of 215 with a pair of Twinmos ddr400 in dual channel.
In single i was able to boot into windows but it crashed half way into the benchmark(3dmark2k1) at 225 fsb.

What multi are you using to OC passed 205 ??

And if possible tell us what kind of cooling your using (cpu/chipset/case fans etc>)
Also your PSU. most nF2 boards need alot of power so if your running a noname >400 VA then thats a problem also.

I am using a xp1700+ 0319 from svc with multiplier of 11 at 205FSB (stable at the moment) at volts of 1.7v with an SLK-900U and a Smart-Fan II. My case is an Antec SOHO File Server with 5 sunon case fans. My PSU is an 560W ENERMAX. My memory is Buffalo PC3700 at timings CAS2 225 (volt 2.9v). I am using the memory (2X256mb)in dual channel mode at a 1:1 ratio with FSB. The northbridge (volt 1.8v) is been cooled by a Vantec Iceberg. I replaced the stock Southbridge Passive cooler with a Zalman Passive Heatsink. Finally, I am using the integrated AGP card at 120 MHZ (stock volt of 1.6V).
Thanks

there's your problem. the integrated graphics add heat to the northbridge and reduce your maximum fsb. slap in an agp card and watch your fsb open right up. 220-225fsb should be possible.

use CoolBits registry key to overclock the igp if you don't have an agp

Try droping the multi to 10 , mem to 7/3/3/2.5 and see if it goes any higher.

Nothing personal cintrone but...............
Iam sick of this crap. All boards are advertised as is. ppl who expect this and that out of what is supplied are living in cloud cuckoo land. I had to CAREFULLY actively cool and mod every chip relevent to get my o/c values using the ram that i had and could afford. What the hell are you ppl expecting? I enjoy pushing the envelope but it gets my goat when ppl post about the fact that they bought this and that and then post that they cannot get to the top of the o/c charts by just plugging it all in. If you think that buying the numbers gets you to the top then think again. Whatever performance u get in UT2003 there is bound to be some cheating scumbag who will wipe you out...........QED.
