Hasw - tell me one thing what that option (enabled STPGNT bit) reallly do ?! Five minutes after I enabled it my idle CPU temp drop 6C and +5V went from +4.84 to 4.89-4.92V. How does it work !?

Well, that's the magical idle-cpu-temp-drop-and-5V-increase-option ;-)

No it enables the "CPU bus disconnect in StopGrant mode"-bit in the NB.

When the CPU is idle it gets disconnected from the system bus and this save power (dec. temp and unload 5V-line).

On some boards this is enabled by default, on some not. Maybe it makes sometimes problems. I've heared that the NF2 supports two modes, Bus disconnect on HLT or/and on StopGrant).

So while running games (load) it won't be any CPU temp. drop ?

Greetings Hasw,

you've created an excellent piece of software! With my former setup of Epox 8RDA (non-plus) Rev 1.1 and Athlon 1200 Thunderbird, 8rdavcore versions 0.6.1 and 0.7.8 used to work flawlessly in all situations on W2kSP4/Win98 dual boot system as long as I did not change FSB in too large steps (the limit was about 60 MHz).

After upgrading to Athlon XP 2700+ (Thoroughbred with multiplier unlocked) the problems began. FSB adjustments by 8rdavcore (have tried 0.7.8 and 0.8.1) now cause the computer not shutting down correctly. Instead the HDD LED remains lit forever and fans continue spinning, sometimes I just get BSOD. Only resetting FSB to boot-time value before shutdown seems to prevent the shutdown failure. Updating bios didn't make any difference.

Any idea why the CPU upgrade brought in this problem?

This is a different CPU and it seems that you can't use the same settings. Does the shutdown work if you set the FSB near the boot-time FSB (-10MHz)?

You can use the "Reset values before exit" option that resets all values to the ones recognized at program startup.

Actually the deviation from boot-time FSB may be large if adjusted downwards. For example, with the FSB/Vcore change of 178/1.65 -> 133/1.65 shutdown is OK but 133/1.65 -> 178/1.65 results in shutdown failure or sometimes immediate BSOD. 160 -> 178 works OK. Vcore seems to be important here. Small or no changes in Vcore allow larger changes in FSB.

The problems get worse when FSB is increased above ~175 (the chipset can handle about 185). Below that the system is less prone to shutdown failures. After more thorough testing, it seems that the problems are not necessarily due to different CPU, I'm just using higher FSB frequencies now.

Resetting before exit is a nice feature, unfortunately you have to remember to exit 8rdavcore manually, Windows just happily terminates the process on shutdown... It's easier to use some shutdown utility which runs 8rdavcore in batch mode.

But is it usual that the system can handle larger FSB/Vcore changes when running than on shutdown?

little suggestion :)

8rdavcore works great now
only thing that is not working for me is cpu fan speed - but I guess it's my fan fault (Thermaltake Vulcano 7+) - it shows speeds from 5000+ down to 2200, when I chande the voltage, correctly then shows gibberish like 16500 or something even more funny but when real speed reaches 1800 it again works great strange stuff....
but to the suggestion - to clear up interface a little, rearrange voltages and fan speeds to something like:
vcore CPU
vdimm SYS
vdd FAN1
5V FAN2
12V FAN3

thats all

great work !! wish I had some money to donate... but Poland is not a wealthy country and so am I

no 8rda3+

I didn't/don't see an 8rda3+ to select when I must select a motherboard. am I just supposed to use the 8rda+? and isn't it supposed to detect what my fsb is doing. as there are no readouts cept some of the voltages....

great work, hasw! i used version 0.6.2b all the time and changed to 0.8.5b really great!
only few things left:
i can't set fsb lower than 130mhz from 185 - otherwise i get a bsod.
is agp sba always activated?
can STPGNT be activated by default?
when du you think you can release another linux version?

@phiphen: Use the 8RDA+ Rev. 2.x

@mal0: The FSB range depends on board/bios. I'm searching a way to 'fix' this.
AGP SBA and STPGNT depends on your bios/board. Some activate it by default, some not.
Because 8rdavcore gets bigger and bigger I'm searching a way to use the same GUI-code for Linux and Windows. I think I will port it to wxWindows, but currently I haven't much time for greater changes so not before march.

Hasw great program.
But I want to ask something ... I have a strange instability in 3D Mark 2001SE .... when I use FSB above 200 mhz I can not complete 3D Mark no matter what is my CPU speed .... and I am 100% sure that my PC is stable at 235 and the CPU at 2680mhz.
I saw on other forum that with your program I can fix that by bumping the AGP latency to 255 but this did not helped me, so if you have any other idea how to solve this problem I will be very thankful to you.

Set the AGP latency between 64-196. Is AGP sideband addressing enabled or disabled by default? I've also added in the latest 0.8-dev another latency (AGP<->GPU), this isn't tested but maybe it helps?..

OK hasw. Thank for the hint. I'll test it today.
Sydeband adressing is enabled by default and when I try to disable it my computer hangs and resets . Is it better to disable it? Because I can disable it with Riva Tuner, but my performance will decreas ... or at least shoud decrease ... I have red somewhere about this.
And can you tell more about this AGP <-> GPU latency? Also it will be better to save the presets for the latencies because right now I'm testing and it is nasty when I have to increase the latency after every reboot.
Thank you again hasw.

Hi Hasw,

any chance to get a command line switch to enable STPGNT?

Thanks, Tom64

I wanted to have like a invisble batch file to setup when overclocked and other for nigth (low voltage, underclocked)

is it possible to make a batch file for each mode without any user input (besides running the batch file)?

BTW thanks alot for the great work m8

I was wondering .. will this be any harm to the computer.

I have my system set running at 219 x 9.5 @1.7v Vcore

If i turn the auto FSB on and move it down to 200x9.5 @1.6v Vcore.

my system runs cooler 35C .. then when i go into a game it goes back to my OC settings.

Will this do damage to the CPU or Memory moving the timings all the time.

Thanks
