Question Epox 8RDA+ & Barton 2500

Hello folks,

Today question's are;
1. Upgrading from xp1700 to barton 2500 will make my pc go faster?
2. Will I see increasing fps in games?
3. Is Barton worth for paying the difference?
4. Is my Epox 8 RDA+ supporting this proc without problems?
5. Only from Bios tweaking what is the most you can get from Barton?

I run my present pc at 2000 Mhz (xp 2400) 166*12

NOW MY SYSTEM LOOKS LIKE:

EPOX 8RDA+, 256x2 PC 2700 DUAL CHANNEL (THIS THING WITH DUAL CHANNEL MAKES ME ANGRY!!!), 40GB MAXTOR 7200, GEFORCE4 TI 4200,
SONY CDRW

I am waiting for your help.
Tx in advance

Chris

first, i must comment that you are no where near getting max potential out of your 1700+, assuming you have one of the recent stepping tbreds. assuming you have good memory (for pc2700) and cooling, you out to be able to get between 185-200 fsb w/out vdd mod, although you may have to relax timings. just the fsb increase will make noticeable diff in performance. you really should compare max you could get out of 1700+ to same for barton. but lets say you want to stick w/ lower fsb, to answer your questions:
1. just the switch to barton won't be that noticeable. increased L2 cache helps only slightly. its still based on tbred core.
2. i noticed slight increase in fps w/ barton.
3. only if you demand every little performance increase regardless of cost.
4. no issues so far.
5. see my sig for what it'll do, but keep in mind i've done every mod, have 8 fans and am water cooled. aircooled with no vdd mod, numerous people are reporting 2200 (3200+). again, this requires lowering multi and raising fsb. say 11x200.
just my observations.

I'm glad I went to the Barton, but as a purely $$$$ result over my 2100+ I'd have to say it wasn't worth it.

But who here bases their opinions on a purely $$$$ basis, right???

In my experience , I like the XP 1700 B core better , especially for the price .

I'm very happy with my £73 Barton XP2500 AQZFA 0335 'Y'. Runs in my watercooled Xaser at 2500MHz (200x12.5) without any hassle (XP5000 anyone). To justify the cost over a 1700 is your call but for me going from an XP1800 to the above makes me a happy bunny. I also run an XP2400 at 2500MHz in a peltier system but find that this requires too much monitoring for temps (for me that is). Performance wise there is not much between the two but the Xaser Barton was so easy to overclock and run that it seems to me that this is the best option. I would recommend one of these AQZFA Bartons.

My vote would be for the Barton 2500+ as well. However I would wait until you find out exactly what your 1700 will do before wasting money.
