8rda+ ram question

Hi all,

I have decided to increase the amount of ram in my system from 512mb to
1024mb. I thought I would also change the memory type. My current system
is:

AMD Xp2500+ @ 2.3ghz (XP3200+)
2x256mb TwinMos (Winbond) pc3200 DDR
Epox 8rda+ (rev 1.1)

Fsb is 200x11 rock solid.

I've noticed that my mobo is resticted upto pc3200 DDR - are there any
mobo's that support higher - or - can I use above pc3200 ddr in my current
system?

Can anyone recommend decent DDR ram?

I've looked at buying Corsair XMS pc3500 2x512.

Cheers and tia

Chris

You can use faster memory, PC3500, 3700 or 4000, the Twinmos you have is excellent memory, you could get a matching 512 Mb stick, put it in one channel, put the 2 x 256 in the other channel, and get the 1 Gb you want.

Remember, 512 Mb sticks are double sided memory, they do not overclock as well as 256 Mb single sided memory, so by increasing your memory, you may lose some FSB?

erm... My Corsair XMS 3500 are doublesided =)
And I couldn't find single-sided memory that overclocks better can u?
Its more the memchip sizes that affect overclocking, not so much the amount...
Anyway I'd also recommend u to buy a 512MB TwinMOS PC3200 stick.
If u plan on keeping 200Mhz FSB and not to go for >210 u should be happy with that choice.

I want to increase my fsb as much as possible.

I see you have done the Vdd mod - is that essential and where can I find details.

I've got no complaints ref TwinMos. I was lucky to buy some with the winbond chips and they've been great. I'm running my setup as:

11.5 x 200

2.2.2.11

but any increase in fsb causes instability in win xp and games. I would like a gig of ram and the benefits of o/c my fsb

I depends on the mobo...
I could go up to 220 w/o the mod so it wasn't that essential...
But nevertheless I did it
Go to 8RDAFAQ for details.
U might want to try setting ur mult to 11 and then pushing the FSB further on, to 210 or so.
Try to stick with 2-2-2 11 timings an get latest bios (its definately the fastest ATM)
U might need to up your Vdimm. 2,77V is a VERY safe setting, if you want more u will most like have to set it to 2,9V which is still quite safe but its not completely guaranteed that your mem can handle it long term.
