Strange thing about MagicScreen

I have an 8rdae rev 2.0 with the latest bios from 10/17/2003. It is strange because the software dysplay that the avaible bios size is 37.8 K but some samples from epox have 301k and they are ok but some others with the same size dont. All the pictures are 256 colors bmp 640x480. What is the problem ?

This is normal for boards with a 256Mbit rom chip like yours. Those people with 512Mbit will have more space to play with.

But some pictures of 301k are good, and they are working, and some are not, with the same characteristics. Why ? And why does the program report that the avaible space in bios is 37.5k ? How can he put an 301k bmp in such little space ? This is something wrong.

It depends upon how well that the bitmap is able to compress into the spare space on the 2 MBit eeprom - although image is for example 300k; it may through LZH alog. compress to 20K - such is the nature of the beat with any form of compression - the master file is the master of it's own compressed destiny.

As ET says, the file is compressed before being inserted into the BIOS 'image'. BMP files are typically uncompressed, so take up a huge amount of space.

No one? Maybe someone could mail me that MagicScreen tool? I'll test it.
I'd like to make my own cool "OEM" logo.
