Question Epox 8RDA+ doesn't work at high Vcore ?

Hi guys,

I have been using this 8RDA+ Rev 1.1 for some time and it's being doing great. I'm running on an ANTEC 430W PSU but whenever I set the Vcore to 1.875 and above, it hangs and during the RAM checking and doesn't get into the BIOS correctly as well

This is pretty weird because it shouldn't act so, am I right ? My question is, has anyone with the same motherboard as I do have such problems ? I understand that this motherboard has an 'OVP' so here I am with it eh ? *lol*

Btw, I'm running 238FSB on watercooling setup, 1800+ NIUHB @ 2.5Ghz

Appreciate your feedback guys !

I would say 238FSB is nothing to sneeze at, yes the board has the over volt protection, and you seem to have reached it, but you have a very nice overclock.

Thanks golfer49
Yes, a wonderful FSB from the 8RDA+ itself but just to make sure if it's the OVP causing the problem

You can't use 1.9Vcore on yours as well ?

It's not OVP, more OCP - over current protection. Volts alone aren't what will kill the system - current will.

As an old welding tale for safety goes "It's the volts that jot, and the amps that lamp"

There are ways of disabling this through various simple mods.

EPoX Tech I have the same problem, but I don't like the solution. I'll void the warranty if I do the mod so it is not suitable for me. Can you tell us how to disable it without void the warranty.

If you run outside of the carrying components specifications specification you run outside of the warranty anyways unfortunatley.

Thanks EPoX Tech for the answer
I never heard of OCP before but where could I find an article on what mod could be done or so if you don't mind ?
I would like to read more about it and anyway, it's pretty pointless to have 2.2Vcore in the BIOS and we can't fully utilize it

I'm not running outside the specifications. I didn't made any mods and my board have everything what I need in the BIOS so even I use 2V vDD or 2,1 vCore I should not void the waranty of my mobo. I'll void the waranty of my CPU but not the board. At least I think so. Maybe I am not right, but you will say that .

As soon as you run outside of the specification voltage and tolerance of the carried components you have run the mainboard outside of warranty. If you had a 2.0v VccCore CPU at standard it would be a different matter

It's not a problem as such - it's a safety feature to stop PC's killing CPU's in mainboards in real world applications - offices etc.

A small modification can remove this, but obviously we cannot put that in there as standard because of the 99.9% of other users that are served by the hardware. We are very fortunate to enjoy good channel trade with this kind of mainboard due to it's performance and high level of component integration in terms of IEEE1394a, USB2.0, exceptional audio, LAN etc................

I don't always divulge mods since I hate my staff having heaps of unneccessary RMA to reject (even though the ratio of boards that are returned fault no found is greater than those returned faulty or out of warranty).

Just out of interest ET, how easy is it to spot a mainboard that has failed due to excessive OC? ?Is it a matter of seconds?

Laz.

Really quite easy to a trained eye and silly-scope - you get sort of trends in failure that show what was happening before death - sort of like forensics.

I've seen some sights! I could tell you some stories!
