EP-BX3 and PC133 ram? Only detects as half :(

I have an EP-BX3 and a 256mb strip of pc133 however it only detects it as 128. Now I know the ram is good cuz I tried in another board and I done a bios update and still the same thing.....is there an issue with this board and pc133? thx for the help

The RAM you are using is probably of a greater density in bit size that the capabilities of the 440BX chipset can handle.

Suggest using PC100 memory of rev 1.0 of the JEDEC specification for this board - may be difficult to get hold of since memory is a commodity like oil - never a stock held item for a long period of time - always built roughly to supply demand only.

It may be best to buy second hand PC100 memories from an auction site, although this does obviously have it's own inherent risks.

Sorry if this causes any inconvenience.

I thought that may be the problem, thx and no need to apologize

The ram run fine and is stable as I have done many tests....is it ok to continue to run it? The owner is happy with it as is even with only half the ram working...should I leave it in?

I'd just keep it in. PC100 and low density PC133 can be hard to find. A 256 PC133 could be cheaper than 128 of PC100. Losing half of the capacity is annoying, but it should keep working fine. And the net result would be the same.

Incredibly polite reply.

Especially since it is not really EPoX's fault.

My my Abit Be6-II Rev 1.1 (440BX) had the same problem too.
