EP-ZXA and new CPU

Hi I'm trying to upgrade my old Celeron 333 to a PIII 550. My motherboard is the EP-ZXA. I believe the bios is Award 4.51PG.

My problem is whenever I install the new CPU, windows will freeze. I have entered BIOS and watched the CPU temp and it remains at 90-105 F.

It is the same temp as the old CPU. During boot up, it will either freeze when checking devices or loading windows 98. The computer is rather old. I believe somewhere it says that it is last updated April of 97/98.

Is there a bios upgrade to fix this or not?

Thanks
Quinton

Your motherboard will support pentium 1,2,3 and celron chips. Try setting the FSB jumper on your board (near processor) at 66mhz and 100mhz and se which one is stable. But before you do that see sites below

try the site below for upgrade bios:

try the site below for processor support

This mainboard can only support Mendocino, Katmai and other 0.25micron process cores IF AVAILABLE - hence 90% of P3 are incompatible, as are the majority of Celeron's except those PPGA parts to 533MHz.

Would suggest seeing if your Celeron will o/clock to 500Mhz by jumper movement to 100FSB, as short of replacing mainboard processor and memory you may be hard pushed to find a faster 0.25micron processor.
