Difference between EPoX 8KRA2+ and 8KRAi?

First what comes my mind:
8KRA2I= no IDE Raid
8KRA2+=IDE Raid

The Epox 8KRA2+ supports:
Amd athlons inc barton range upto 400FSB
Faststream 64tm via DDR400mhz memory
SATA HDD
Raid controllers

The 8KRAI only supports:
Amd athlon barton series to 333FSB
Pc 2700 DDR 333 mhz memory
no raid or sata options

The 8KRA2+ is the better board in my opinion

This is unfortunatley incorrect.

The difference is a lack of PATA RAID and IEEE1394a support in the EP-8KRAI

Just to confirm, the 8KRAi does support 400FSB and SATA?

I don't mind lack of IEEE1394a or raid.

It has the same KT600 chipset so I am hoping it is pretty similar to the 8KRA2+.

The reason I ask is because komplett.co.uk have these for £38.78 inc. VAT which is amazingly good value for a new board of this type.

I can't seem to find any info on this board on www.epox.org.

The picture on komplett seems to indicate 5 instead of 6 PCI slots which is fine.

How many USB 2 connections does this have? (any extra on board so I can connect my case's front USB ports?)

Note that EPoX UK does not distribute the 8KRAI, we never have, and I won't choose it to sell - the combination of 400FSB and budget mainboard aren't what I want to sell - the chipset is too expensive to use in a basic design - hence we have the 8KRA2+ here in the UK in abundance selling large qty and having better product focus as a result.

For a budget solution we offer the EP-8K9A7I based upon KT400a chipset which also has SATA RAID but weighs in very cheaply indeed when compared to KT600 product.

Note that Komplett product is not supported by EPoX UK, since it does not originate from us - in terms of warranty or information.

Are all Komplett Epox products not supported due to them being based abroad or is it just the 8KRAi?

The EP-8K9A7I seems really good value (I didn't realise there was a KT400a). The board seems to only support 333MHz FSB so is there any point in getting PC3200 memory for it?

I need to decide between the EP-8K9A7I and EP-8KRA2+. It depends on my future upgrade options. I currently have a Barton 2500+ (333MHz FSB) so if I wanted to upgrade to a 400MHz FSB later then I should go for the EP-8KRA2+. But the Athlon64 may be an option by the time I upgrade again so it may be better to go for the EP-8K9A7I budget option now. Any opinions?

I see a good logic in going for the EP-8K9A7I now and having an open option at a later date as we will soon have another 2 Athlon 64 boards within the next couple of months - the EP-8HDA5+ and EP-8KDAI (K8T800 and NForce 3 Pro 250)

The cost of a 400FSB Athlon XP is possibly more than that of an Athlon 64 at their cheapest - so the feasability is there certainly. My Athlon 64 box is my second pride after my Mini Me 320S with the remote control and sliding fascia!!

You have persuaded me, EP-8K9A7I it is then along with some PC2700 DDR ram.

Can't wait for those Athlon64 boards to come out!
