Question about 8rda3+ and SATA Converters..

I have one of the older 8rda3+ revs and was wondering what ide-sata converters you guys are using or if you know which ones work with these boards.

I've been using Abit's Serillel adapters for about nine months now, theyve worked great after the trouble i had in the beginning. I had one faulty adapter which didn't recognize the HD. Got it changed and now everything has worked beautifully.

Do they sell the old Serillel adapters anymore? I noticed some stores are selling Serillel2 ones now.

Not to be a party pooper but I would recommend against the use of adapters and go IDE for IDE and SATA for SATA - many people have a great deal of problems with those Serilells (and I do like the work and ideas of ABit in general).

Sata drives are well decently priced now - my laptop even has one! My assistant bout 2 x 250GB Maxtors and RAIDED them on 4PCA3+ r1.x and I can't keep him quiet - 500GB of damn fast access in a stripe - HDTach's from ICH5R like a SCSI animal breed.

That is where the usefulness of SATA comes in - when you stripe - performance is loads better than PATA stripes. And obviously as the capacity increases and the density intensifies, the drive speed naturally becomes greater.

I don't have a lot of cash atm.. I'm just looking to free up my ide controllers for my dvd/rw and cd/rw.. I'll purchase some sata drives in the next several months though hehe.

8rda3+ SATA

Out of interest, can someone you tell me what would be the best performing stripe size for my Raptors. I striped them 16K (way back in June 2003) - never had a crash or lost data.

I surf, listen to music play games etc.

I also understand cluster size can vary hard drive performance.

Thanks

Geeza

On ATA softraid 16,32 & 64 are all very feasible - for larger stripes proper RAID is needed like a 960 based option with some SDRAM locally addressed.
