Scsi

I don't know whether this is directly related to my motherboard or not, but Áedán / Epox Tech / anybody else with a deeper understanding of the pci architecture than me will hopefully be able to help me out.

If I'm playing audio on my machine and there's high activity on my scsi bus, my sound become completely garbled.

I've tried to correct this in several ways - shifting pci slots, changing pci bus latencies but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Also, latest drivers and bios for all devices concerned. Only the scsi card causes this, my 3ware card doesn't present this problem :/

Flak, my system is based around a Tekram DC-390U3D SCSI card, and it's run flawlessly on the 8RDA+ platform. As the machine only has SCSI, I'd have noticed issues quickly

It sounds like it might be an issue with the Adaptec card or driver - do Adaptec have any suggestions?

I have emailed them, but with no response yet :/

I use an Advansys based card without issue whilst full channel activity is in place no issues are seen.

grr, just registered for tech support with adaptec, guess what - apparently an oem card - despite being a plain adaptec card with no rebranding, therefore no support. What a ****ing rubbish support policy.

Looks like this card will be being replaced. Any suggestions on where / what reasonable single channel scsi card to buy?

Strange, I have had the exact same card and it worked flawlessly with my Epox 8RDA+. As for a reasonable single channel SCSI card, I only ever use Adaptec because of their support, their warranty is excellent and their gear is designed for servers, its top quality imo.

do you have apic and acpi both enabled? I have to have apic disabled on my system otherwise any network card with a sensible processor on it (intel or 3com) does not work. I wonder if that could be attributing to the issue.

I've got an m-audio revolution here as well. so i'm tempted to put that in and test it (that's what i upgraded from when i got the 6fire). I don't want to use it permenantly because the drivers are so bad under 2000 though.

Having used NCR/Symbios based adapters for a while, I have no problems recommending them.

On Adaptec - I rarely see their cards in servers these days. I tend to see more along the lines of IBM, Compaq or Dell.

However, just because a card is designed for server use doesn't mean it's any good for audio, as latency is a big issue. Most server cards are designed to handle heavy traffic on dedicated PCI busses, so higher latency isn't usually a problem.

APIC - Intel's drivers should be APIC aware, as it's an Intel specification!

you'd have thought so wouldn't you, but it would appear that this is not the case :/

I only bought this adaptec card in the first place because i got it cheap on ebay :) serves me right by the looks of things.

I think I'm going to get an lsi card and see how that turns out as adaptec are still not even giving me a response to my emails - which is VERY rude.

Thank you all for your suggestions.
