| Epox 8KHA+: Bios 16/01/2002 and Multiword fix I just flashed to the last beta bios but my cdr (acer 12x8x32x) set as secondary master is still working in multiword udma2 mode instead of what is supposed to be (UltraDMA 2). The bios says it would have fixed that, am I doing something wrong? Plz Epox Tech, reply to this post. Thanks

| the bios fixed that problem for my samsung 16x dvd-rom, but not for my aopen cd-rw. not too fussed, though, cos it still rights at 12x with no problems. odd, though.

| ....as your text was unclear .......... If you are reffering to a plain difference between Multiword DMA2 (16.7Mb/s burst) and UDMA2 (33.3Mb/s) I think that the issue may defined from the ATAPI device not able to pick up correctly on the timing protocol sent from the 8233 southbridge (the timing protocol for both of these standards is the same however UDMA 2 is double transition clocked). That is to state that it may be a stock incompatibility of the ATAPI device with the southbridge, improved on some devices with a BIOS fix, however unchangeable on other devices.

| sorry for the text not so clear but I'm nor English ![]() However I was referring to the difference between multiword DMA2 and UDMA2... my device is recognized in winxp as multiword DMA2, but I think it should be able to do UDMA2. By the way the device is updated to the last firmware.
