8KDA3+ BIOS/Vdimm bug

whenever i set the System Performance setting from Normal to Fastest the vdimm setting reverts to whatever is hard coded into the dimm (in my case 2.7 which is 2.68v on this board). switch it to Normal and it reverts to the BIOS vdimm setting.

Well I always wondered what that "Fastest System Performance" thing actually meant. I mean, we all want fastest performance, don't we? But that could be an explanation:
  • "Normal" system performance means the BIOS times the memory as you tell it to
  • "Fastest" system performance assumes you are a fool to select such an option, and the memory makers know better, so it ignores your BIOS memory settings and always uses the SPD information
I know this sounds cynical, but it seems in accordance with the symptoms.

Normal is usually very conservative.. or the slowest timings the mobo can handle. Fastest is usually somewhere in the middle, and Turbo is aggressive. Usually, you can set to manual, and go even tighter.

lol. Steve is right - thought it was bit obvious id forgotten with the edit

i also forgot to the bios which was the 24/6 bios which had this problem in addition to the shipping BIOS.

it also seems to think 1.55v was selected everytime i selected 1.750v in for vcore eventhough it did actually give ~1.7ish in the actual BIOS readings but this bug is only on the 24/6 one.

for some reason Win2k also likes to BSOD on bootup immediately after doing a BIOS flash - no idea if a BIOS flash causes a IRQ reshuffle or something...

As a matter of fact I can confirm the voltage thing... but it was there with the stock BIOS as well. I remember wondering why the BIOS ignored my setting. Now I have just flashed in 24/6 and tried it with the same resullt. At "Normal" setting, the BIOS pays respect to the manual memory slot voltage settings.

In conjunction with memory timings, yes. But this is a totally different section of the BIOS, and it is not obvious what part of the system is actually influenced by that weird "System performance" setting.
