| COM port problems with 8kmm3i I bought a epox 8kmm3i motherboard to build a simple pc for my dad. This project has turned out something less than easy. First I thougt it was dead but it was not. I had to change memory to Kingston to make it boot. So it just wont work with twinmos. Now you know that, don´t try twinmos. Now I have one more problem to solve. I want to install a modem. First i tried my old trusty 56k modem using serial connection. It didn´t work at all. It confused the modem with the VGA port and I gave it up. So i bought a creative modem blaster USB. Now it installs as com3 and that seems very strange. More important - it doesn´t work. I can get the stats from the modem, but no dialtone. The modem works on my laptop (which is what I am writing this mail on .How do I fix this? Usb should not become com3 right?

| Please try flashing with the latest bios available from http://www.epox.org/bios in this instance and re-install the modem drivers and try again. The WHQL BIOS supplied on the board may prevent some modem timings through the southbridge from getting autonomous communication - the latest BIOS will cure such. I hope that this works for you.

| I have in the last several weeks built two systems using the epox 8kmm3I. In both situations I was unable to get a PCI modem to work. I Tried three different ones to no avail. I also found that with windows ME I was able to Q the modem but was never able to use the modem to dial out. It would freeze each time I tried to use it. I reformated and loaded windows xp. With xp I could q the modem but when I tried to use it windows reported a "No dialtone" message. In both instances I used all the same hardware but tried a different MOBO and had no problems. I believe there is some kind of flaw. I see epox tech told olorin to flash the bios. I was wondering if this fixed the problem.

| That does fix the PCI modem problem - if you get in touch with your technical support for EPoX by e-mail that is the response that you will get.
