Electronic whine on 8KDAJ

Hello AOA,

I just set up a new computer. I used the old parts from the computer and upgraded the processor, motherboard, and powersupply.

There is a very horrible whine coming from my computer. I have done many tests and swapped out every single piece of hardware except the processor and motherboard. The noise is not coming from the fan or power supply. I put my ear literally right up to the case, and the noise is coming from the CPU/AGP/Power Connector area. The noise happens when the computer is idle. If I am running a game or intensive program, the noise stops until it is idle again. I unplugged the speakers and any unnecessary cables and moved the computer to the middle of the room to eliminate any possible interference.

Again, the noise does not come from any fan (water cooled) or any piece of hardware. It has to be the motherboard or the CPU (that seems unreal).

Has anyone else experienced this? Can I do anything? The motherboard is a revision 1 Epox 8KDAJ and the processor is a A64 3200+ Newcastle, nothing is overclocked or modded in any way.

I am hopefuly Epox Tech could help me out here, and tell me if I should RMA it. Thank you.

Yep, thats the problem all right. To the letter. Thanks so much for providing that link.

I'm uncomfortable touching the capacitors or the coils, though. I think I will RMA. I was hoping I could get a quick word from Epox Tech (On monday I am guessing). I wonder if this problem was fixed with revision 3.x and beyond?
