Best Socket A epox board?

hi.

On friday (2 days time) i shall be ordering my athlon XP 1800+ i was wonering about giving an Epox mainboard a go as this Gigabyte one seems to give me nothing but trouble.

Should i get one of the current boards eg the 8kha+ or should i hold on to this piece of crap until a new EPoX board shows up?

I am using Samsung ram so i mite get some decent pc2700 ram to assure i get a decent FSB out of the chip.

Please suggest away. EPoX tech, how long should i wait and what is coming at what price :-D

Thanks for the help people.

Question

There have been and still are issues with some Samsung memory. Since I do not remember exactly which is the culprit, I won't comment on this. The new 8KHA+2 will be available in a few weeks. I understand it should have a better power regulater among some better features over the present 8KHA+. I have the current 8KHA+ and really could not ask for a better mobo. The only thing I really would like is a bios line that would allow the adjustment of the voltage to the video card. This in my opinion would make this mobo the very best of the best.

The mobo using the SIS chipset is coming out very soon. I have never used this chipset and can't comment on this at all. Maybe someone that has one of these could say more about it.

I would not have a problem in purchasing the 8KHA+ at this time, the performance is great, the board is stable and easy installation and setup. Best bios I have ever used. I have not used any bios that would allow adjustment of the voltage to the AGP slot, so I am not including this in my opinion of the present mobo.

Question

The SIS chipset will utilize PC2700, I am not sure about PC3000. The 8KHA+2 should not have any more jumpers than the present model (2). All is soft menu settings. The only jumpers on the present 8KHA+ are 1::cpu frequency default at 100 optional 133. The other jumper is to dump CMoss.

That is correct. You may adjust the frequency or the multiplier in bios. That is if the cpu is unlocked. Great setup. The TBird I had was unlocked. I have now a XP and it is not unlocked, probably will not ever unlock this one.. It will go to a XP2000+ speed so I don't see the necessity. I am not one to chase the fps or 3dMark2001 scores.

We have one Epox board running an Athlon 1.2x200 and in bios I set it at 10x140. It has been running at 1.4 for about 3 months and does not overheat. Everything is great.

Question

Righton bro!!! You really aint gonna be happy till you get one. The new boards coming, the first is gonna be a SIS chipset and is the PC333 setup. Don't know about SIS. Some say it is good, some say it aint. Never had one, so I can't comment.

The Epox SIS board will be my first experimentation with SIS.
I figure if anyone can do it right it will be Epox.

Hoping to add overclocking and additional performance with the SIS745 Epox board, some features that my ECS K7S6A lacks.
