8RDA3+ cant find my SATA disks

Hey

I've just bought 2 120gb Hitachi 7K250 SATA hd's but i've got a problem when i try to connect them to my 8RDA3+ rev 3.1 board.

The problem is that the onboard Silicon Image 3112 controller refuses to detect the disks. When i press the F4 button to enter the RAID bios the controller tells me that it's unable to find any connectet hd's

I have flashed the board with the newest bios and testet the hd's in another computer. They worked fine there.

I have attached an image showing the message the controller gives.

Thanks in advice.

I'd double check the jumper settings on the drives. You'll need to make sure they are set correctly for your configuration. You might try connecting just one of the drives, see if it is detected.

He wouldn't be seeing that screen if it weren't.

NM, just re-read your original post.

There isn't any jumpers on a sata drive.
I have tried to connect one of the drives only, but that didn't make any difference.

I think you're right...

Is it possible that there is a compatibillity issue between the controller and my hd's?
Is there anyone who knows if there's an updated bios availible for the controller?

I have this problem too...

... with my Maxtor DiamondMax 10 160GB SATA disk and MB Epox 8RDA3+.

First, this is NOT problem in drivers for OS - this is report from SATA BIOS or BIOS from MB with SATA support, not OS.

Second, enable/disable SiL3112 in MB BIOS don't help me, if I disable support 3112, I don't have detection and screen on the image doesn't exist. This show ONLY if I have enabled support for 3112.

Third, sometime is disc detected and sometime no.

How I start my computer with primary and system NO SATA and data on SATA?
I start PC, and if SATA disc is not found, start on WinXP initial screen is delayed to 30-60 seconds. After start resume PC started completely, but disc doesn't attached. Now I switch computer to sleep mode and after shutdown engines I wake it. Now SATA utility found disk, I press F8 and select remove stored info and continue to NEW SYSTEM RESTART. And all working fine.

I know this is not solution, but this working. I have lastest BIOS (I have from EPOX support newer version with lastest code for 3112), but this don't work. On any phorums I found info about problems with NCQ, and Maxtor DiamondMax 10 is NCQ disk. Maybe exist any utility to disable NCQ, but I don't found this. No, on Maxtor site doesn't exists.

I can sympathize with your problem. Though I have yet to try out the SATA controller on my 8RDA3+, it will not work with my CDRW. Though my CDRW was working fine with my 8K3A+, and has continued to work with every other motherboard I've tried it on, my 8RDA3+ will hang at the POST screen with the IDE cable connected to my Cyberdine CDRW.

It does sound as though you're up against a drive incompatibility issue, or a plain old defective motherboard.
