Should I flash BIOS (8KHA+)

Hello,

First of all, I am so glad I found this forum. It is the most informative and helpful I have found. I just bought my 8KHA+ two days ago and I must say I am very happy.

Okay, my question: I am skeptical about flashing the bios. I flashed my ASUS A7M266 last week and all indications said it was successful. When it rebooted, nothing. No video and just a bunch of long beeps. Tech support was really unhelpful and I was treated like it was my problem...too bad, so sad. They said take it back to the dealer...but I bought in July and they won't do anything except charge me money to get the new bios. Anyway, I can order a new bios...but I was unsatisfied so I decided to just get a new mobo. (One day, I'll prob order a new bios for the ASUS.)

Anyway, after that, I am very skeptical. I used ASUS' program to flash and like I said, it appeared to be successful.

Should I flash my bios if I am having no probs with it? I am having a prob overclocking it past 143FSB...after that it won't load winXP....but I tend to think I have a sucky Athlon or cheap RAM. So bottom line: is it worth it to flash bios if nothing is wrong? Would I see a perf increase w/ the latest bios? And if I try and flash it and it is unsuccessful, will EPOX jump through hoops to get me back up and running...or would I be just SOL.

BTW: I have a AMD 1.4Ghz and 768mb RAM w/ an ASUS GeForce3 Deluxe.

Thanks for the inputs,
Darrell

Actually, scratch this post...I just updated BIOS and everything went fine.

But my fingers were crossed whole time.

Thanks,
Darrell

Question

Well Epox Tech told me, "if it ain't broke don't go afixin it". I guess this is true, but as with most of us, we just have to try something as maybe this will be the one thing we have been looking for.

I have flashed the bios from the 11/2/01 all the way to 2116. Now I am back to the 11/2/01 bios, seems that none of them are any better than the one I had from the start.

Epox did furnish a new bios chip for me. They mailed it USPO, and I returned the old chip to them. The chip did fix all the problems I had with the mobo. I had no problems at all, but I had to try those new bios files just to see. I believe if I were one to go extreme fsb area the new bios files will be good. Since I am not inclined to go 160-200+ fsb I don't need anything other than what came with the chip.
