has anyone had the pleasure of breaking a component of a 8K7A+?

well I have..

while installing the nylon bolts for a waterblock, I foolishly broke off a resistor (I think) on the back side of the board. The resistor is/was very close to where the nut sits and ...SNAP, there it went. Mobo was useless after that.

Got power, but no video, no bios, no attempt by computer to acces floppy, etc..

Woe is me...

Please be very careful out there. :nervous:

Damn...thats a shame.

DO you still have the broken bits ?

You could probably solder it back on and save the board.
If you cant another member probably can (i would offer but postage to the UK would be a bit silly)

Unfortunately the broken bit is Missing In Action. I thought about trying to figure out what the component was and getting a replacement to solder, but I figured I'd try the RMA route first. It appears as though the reseller is going to take it back, i got an RMA number. Thats awesome news considering I was fully prepared to take the hit and order another at full price.

Physical damage to a mainboard is not covered by the warranty (as with any product by any manufacturer).

I kinda figured that, although they did give me an RMA number and said they'd send out another. I'm not sure how the RMA works, but perhaps when they get it and see the component is missing, they will not resend me one. That is completely understandable, but I thought it couldn't hurt to at least try.

btw, the RMA was not issued by Epox, but through the reseller. Don't think that will make any difference though.

The spec. of LA6 is IND. 10nH, 1608, an inductor, not a capacitor and definatley not a voltage regulator

I must have gotten my terms confused and had to go back and 2check. I believe I was informed that it was a "very important power regulatory resistor", so I will stand corrected.

LA6 resistor

Thanks for the info Epox Tech, I suppose I will get the board returned to me soon and will try to solder a new one onto the board.

Is there anywhere a guy can get detailed schematics of the board (with component specs)? Its not that I don't believe you, I just want to make sure thta I broke the same component you guys are talking about (LA6). Actually, I kinda figured this would turn into a lengthy thread so I took a few pics of the damage to the unfortunate board. I will try to post them soon.

More importantly, any place you would recommend getting a replacement component? I usually use Digikey, but I'm not sure they have anything that small.

Got the replacement board today... installed it with the chip, making sure to be VERY careful not to damage any mobo components... and same thing. I'm suspecting the chip now. Since it was my first time using those AMD motherboard mounts, i guess its possible that i fried/cracked the chip. I screwed the top nuts onto the nylon bolts so that from the waterblock to the top of the nut, its about 3/8". Is that too tight/loose?
