On their tod they come close, in fact their peak read rate is slightly higher I believe

Mmm.. bytes...

What I've gotten out of the Techreport / Storagereview reviews is that real-life HDD performance is just a little bit more complicated than meets the eye... do you have the option to enable / disable NCQ support? That might be fun to play with.

Best I can tell, the overhead from NCQ slows down your typical streaming performance benchmark, like DVD ripping, but NCQ itself speeds up an aggregation of random unrelated read requests, possibly multitasking desktop applications, but more commonly multi-user server loads. Obviously some requests actually resolve with more latency due to being reordered later in the queue...

Sweat. I was really pleased with the 2 x 300Gb Seagate Barracudas I got. I could imagine two of those in a RAID 0 array. A whole TB of storage.
My uncle just got two LaCie 1TB external drives that he has mirrored. He is where I got my new Barracudas.

My Motherboard dosent support NCQ and SATA II
but my brother got 9npa+, and he beats my raptor 36gb
