You may find the EP 9NAPJ SLi to be a better board.
Also save some money on the 3700 SD and possibly try to get hold of an Opteron 146 or 144 and overclock it.

How about a 9NPAJ SLI? See here:
http://www.aoaforums.com/forum/showp...28&postcount=7

You could get a cheaper CPU and use the saving to get a pair of 6800's for SLI.

I think the build looks great, but if you are buying an nVidia card you might as well get an SLi motherboard to go with it. As for 6800's in SLi, you'd be crazy not to just grab one 7800GT which costs less and probably beats 2 6800's in SLi and you can always get another 7800GT later. The price difference between the 9NPAJ SLi and 9NPA+ Ultra is only $25, not enough to justify a different graphics card, IMO. As for the Opteron, it does seem like the better choice, especially if you overclock it.

Wow, great forum not used to getting replies this fast. As to your questions, yes I plan on overclocking as far as I can go, also I have thought about the SLI version but believe that the single card will be sufficiant to satisfy my son compared to the current system he is using. I have recently noticed that the opteron seems to be getting quite a bit of attention but feel comfortable with the current athlons. I could always upgrade later to the opteron but considering this is my first build with the 64 version don't you agree that I should start with a processor that has a considerable amount of history behind it.

The 64-bit Opterons came before the 64-bit Athlons, except the original Opterons had 940 pins and intended for servers. Now they are available and cheaper as S939 for desktops. In any case, they both share the same technology, but with a few differences.

So you would suggest the opteron, what flavor would get me the best price per performance? And I agree that I should get the SLI version upgrading later to another card makes a lot of sense.

Thats what this post is all about, I have no idea what memory works best with this build. It seemed to me that in my research I read that the gaming performance was not substantially improved when adding a module lets say that can reach DDR600, am I wrong?

The appeal with the Opterons (for overclockers) is that they all have a 1 MB L2 cache. So, you can get say a 146 San Diego quite cheaply and overclock it.

With SLI, you will have an option of buying a second-hand 7800 GT, to go with the one you already have, when upgrade time comes around again. Rather than having to shell out on which ever is the top card at the time.

Advice taken, I have updated my purchace to the SLI version 9NPAJ and removed the San Diego in favor of the Opteron 146. What do you suggest for memory?

With 44 amps on the 12v rails you should be laughing.

Yep, looking good. I've not heard much of the 6800GS. Budget 6800's that unlock and overclock like crazy?
