Noise

Hello,

I just wanted to ask if someone know if its a good idea or bad idea to exchange the northbridge fan on 9NPA+ultra cus it makes alot of noise on my board. Thinking about the zalman nortbridge passive blue cooler. This one: http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/...dx=71&code=014
Exchanged it on my old 8RDA6+PRO board and seemd to work fine on that. Would that zalman cooler be enough for 9npa+ultra also?

I agree that they can be noisy - mine went through a phase of making a terrible din for about the first 10 minutes after power on before it warmed up. I think replacing it with anything that doesn't need a fan and has a large fin count and weight would be okay provided you have clearance for VGA cards etc. Thats the most crucial factor on my system being SLI board.

Yes indeed. i have also noticed that the first 10 min or so its most noisy. weird though it seems it should be most cool then. but after some hours it gets noisy again on mine on and off. it seems to spin extremly fast. It seems to be that a biggest possible heatsink and fins would be better with slower or no fan at all. well, i guess i have to try it out. i hope it works fine. have no idea how hot the chip is, but zalman have always had good stuff. and is working fine on 8RDA+Pro.

Never had a problem with the one on my 9NDA3+, I think it is the same one. Looks like a cheap GPU cooler.

I've seen people mention elsewhere that they are using that Zalman cooler on these boards and it works fine.

I have the Zalman on my 9NPA+ Ultra. It is running pretty heavily overclocked and although it gets hot it works fine. The noise of the standard fan was infuriating so I had to do something about it.

Also replaced my 9NPA+ Ultra main board fan with Zalman NB47J. No problem found yet. But NB47J is very hot. Cannot touch it for more than 2 seconds. I'm a little bit worrying about north bridge chip overheat.

Ok doesn't sound good if it's that hot. I just bought it today, gonna attach it tommorow. But how hot do the original fan with heatsink get? does that little fan with that little gold heatsink really do better job then zalmans NB47J or not im wondering.

I tested with my fan controller's thermal sensor, with NB47J only, temperature was over 60 degrees Celsius. So I have to add a 50mm fan to the NB47J. And the temperature is 41 ~ 45 degrees now. I don't remember exactly the temperature with stock 9NPA+ Ultra heatsink. Maybe it was around 47.

So my attempt to reduce noise by NB47J was failed.

Sorry to hear that then myabe its no good idea to change the stock to zalmans. hm. and now its winter too so its colder now, so in summer it will get alot warmer. Im not sure if its worth it now, if it gets that hot. 60 degrees sounds hot.
Thank you for your reply and info.
