no more heatsink mount holes?

hey, i just heard that AMD are changing the spec for motherboards, so they no longer have to have the heatsink mounting holes, ET are you allowed to comment on whether EPoX are going to keep them for future boards? as i think everyone here would agree they are the best way to secure sinks, and from what little i know its more or less a case of drilling holes in the board anyway.

I dont know whether you have much leverage over at epox, but i doubt u can influence design, but i think it would be in EPoX interest to keep the holes, think how popular you guys would be if you were the only manufacturer still using the holes?

we want holes, we want holes.

But is this change not only for MicroATX? That is what I read.

IMHO, any mainboard manufacturer that makes 'tweaker" style boards should continue to put the holes in.... ahem...

One would think AMD would support this.... but I guess it might be a backdoor ploy to increase chip sales, lol.

Asus and MSI keep the holes. Abit and ECS drop the holes. But Abit was a overclocker board and this solution without holes is a OEM thing. ECS is okay. 90% OEM market. Abit 0.00001% OEM markt, 99.9999999% Retail overclockers. The Max KT333 boards are the first without the holes.

RIP Abit. Why $200 for high end overclocker boards and no high end cooler. Very clever.

on the new boards the holes can be drilled through the board without disaster as long as you are brave enough to try it

I don't think EPoX will fail to include the holes on future premium overclocking/performance boards.

However, I'm thinking they may ditch the holes on there "value" and microATX solutions.
