8K3A+ shutdown problem

I have some problem with my new 8K3A+ board. Specs at the end of this post. Using Win XP.

The first problem is that I can´t shut the computer down. When I press "Shutdown" everything starts to shutdown. Saving setting and so on. The harddrives shuts down but the computer is still on and nothing more happens. I´ve already ckecked the box for APM support.

The second problem I have is that I can install Windows XP while the harddrives is in UDMA5 mode. I have to set them to UDMA4. What can be wrong?

Specs
Athlon XP 1800+
EPoX 8K3A+ BIOS 2313
768Mb Kingston PC2100
Radeon 8500
Western Digital 100Gb
Western Digital 120Gb
Sblive! value
2xNIC 10/100

Plz help.

I have this board here which I am running in similar configuration (although I have the 128Mb 8500LE) but with 2 x Maxtor ATA133 80Gb 7200rpm.

- BIOS 8k3a2321.bin, S3 selected for power management
- 1.5Gb Nanya DDR333
- CWT320W PSU amd recomended psu at their site for upto 2100+
- MP2000+ processor
- Hard Drives automatically detected as 133Mb/s burst by Highpoint device
- Fresh Installation of Windows XP Professional build 2600, all registered version Windows updates received via internet.
- VIA 4.37 4-in-1's installed
- ALC201 drivers from provided CD installed.
- HPT 372 version 2.31 drivers installed at beginning of XP setup using F6 and S options
- Radeon 8500LE Driver install made
- Alcatel Speetouch DSL device drivers loaded

Machine operates correctly and all ACPI verifier and S3 action working correctly in accordance with specification guidelines. Shutdown is correct.

Try to ensure that if this is a new mainboard - a completely fresh install of windows is made and the Highpoint drivers are installed at the very beginning of install using F6 and S options

The board detects the harddrives as ATA100 when I use the Highpoint. But not with the regular IDE.

I did try a fresh install of Windows XP, but I still have the shutdown problem.

EPoX Tech..

I still have problem with shuting down the computer. When I press "Shutdown" everything starts to shutdown. Saving setting and so on. The harddrives shuts down but the computer is still on and nothing more happens. I´ve already ckecked the box for APM support.

I´ve tried everything. Also tried every bios version that EPoX released.

Don´t know what to do.

Are either of those NICs Netgear 310's?. I'd try pulling out all PCI cards and all but one stick of memory. Does it shutdown in safe mode?.

My 8K3A+ does the same thing with Win 2000, doesn't shut down properly. On shut down after save settings, screen goes blank for a second then sreen pops up now safe to shut down computer. Manually shut down by holding power button in, not a big deal, but I have a 8KHA+ with a pci highpoint raid card with raid 0 set up an no shutdown problems with Win 2000. The 8K3A+ to me is no more than a overvolted 8KHA+ with on board raid but not near as good as the 8KHA+.

Im also having the same issue with shutdown in both Me and Xp. Complete the process but stays on with the Its now safe to turn off your computer message. For some reason it doesnt actually shutdown the computer automatically after this point?

Id say its maybe a bios setting, but I havent figured it out yet!

I would be very happy if you could give me an answer regarding the problems above.

I think I´ve tested everything but it still doesn´t shutdown and I still have that irritating IDE problem

This board is awsome but the problems drives me crasy.

Is ACPI disabled? I had the same problem with an 8KHA+ running the 2314 beta BIOS when ACPI was disabled. It didn't happen when ACPI was enabled.

Mine shuts down just fine on win2k using the 2312 bios.

All ive changed in my windows installation since swapping from the 8kha+ is reinstalling my via 4-in-1 drivers (4.38)

There is extensive M$ help about shutdown problems, although ive never had a problem with win2k.

ACPI is disabled and APM is checked.

The only BIOS version that worked was the first that came with the board.

I´ve got one of the first boards that came to Sweden. And it´s Rev. 1.0

Do a reinstall with ACPI enabled and I bet your problem goes away.

Will try that later on. The thing I don´t like about ACPI is that it ****s up my IRQ tables and I get some strange sound behavior from my soundcard.

at last

With the new BIOS version and ACPI enabled in BIOS finally I can shutdown my computer. I did try a reinstall with the 2328 but still no change, but with 2508 the problem goes away.

Now there´s only one little problem left. If I have the harddrives connected to the IDE channels, I need to lower to ATA33 if I want to install Windows XP. With AUTO or ATA100 the installation stops after choosing partion.
