9NPA+SLI ---> Athlon 64 X2 6000+

I currently own the 9NPA+SLI board with a 64 X2 4200+ CPU - got it about a year and a half ago... would like to put the latest and greatest CPU in it - looks like the AMD 64 X2 6000+ would be that chip. However, I just checked the Epox website and the fastest approved CPU (whatever that means) for this board is the X2 4800+ CPU.

So, I'm not sure what gives here... I was under the impression that the board could take any socket 939 chip - current and future...

I know there are some that would question this upgrade; but that argument aside, I really need to know if I can upgrade to a CPU that's faster than 4800+ If I'm limited to 4800+, then I'm not sure there's a reason to go from what I have to that...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I think the 6000 is an AM2. AMD stopped production of 939 chips a while back.

Yep
Samuknow is right although they are still making Socket 939 Opterons.
Would grab an Opteron 165 Dual core and overclock the silly willies out of it.Most will hit 2.7-3Ghz.

Hey guys -- check out the GSkill pages of NewEgg right now.

They've got pc2-6400 HXs and HKs ~ {Microns and ProMOs, respectively} for 160 + 5 and 150 + 5 (once again, respectively); 2 x 1GB matched pairs, each.

I went for the HXs (already on the way, since 1:00 am last night), but am thinking of going back for the HKs as well.

[ooh... ahhh...]

250 x 4 guaranteed, and not bad latencies at 2.3x volts, either.
