KP6-BS with dual Powerleap 1.4GHz?

This is an old dual workstation my Dad uses - I checked prices, and it would be a lot cheaper to upgrade the CPU's and let him get a few more years out of this rig than to buy a new computer and spend 3 or 4 days [or even a week] transferring over all the old software.

The setup:

2MB bios chipset
9-15-2000 bios
1GB ECC RAM

Looking at

2 X Powerleap PL-ip3/T, Version 2, 1.4GHz, 512KB, Tualatin

Has anyone tried this?

Does it work at all, even if, say, you can only boot at 112MHz, or 100MHz?

133MHz x 10.5 = 1396.5 MHz
112MHz x 10.5 = 1176 MHz
100 MHz x 10.5 = 1050 MHz

Any of these would be fine, and would let my Dad get a few more years of internet surfing, email, and word-processing out of this old rig.

Thanks!

Last I heard, the 1.4 GHz PIII Tualatins had a bad habit of burning up. Being as you're running dual cpu already, and given what he's going to be doing with it, I think I would be looking at maybe a 1 GHz chip, rather 1.4 GHz.

What's the clock speed he's running right now?

I didn't think the BX chipset would run over 100 MHz without hacking the board?

Right now, with PII's, the board will boot at either 100MHz or 112MHz, although it won't boot at 133MHz with the PII's.

It does have some pretty nice 133MHz ECC memory in it, so that shouldn't be a problem.

But again, I'd be happy underclocking the thing [100 X 10.5 or 112 X 10.5] - I just want to make sure that it will even boot in the first place.

It should boot, if you can get it to fit.

Problem is, the Tualitin is Socket 370, and that mobo is Slot 1. Unless you plan on getting slotket, it won't work.
