Symptoms of damaged CPU or motherboard

Can anybody tell me the signs and symptoms of either CPU damage or motherboard damage?

Whats happening in my case is that when I power on, I do not get any video signal at all. There's no videocard information screen nor the POST screen.

However, I can hear the POST memory test ticking sound. Whats the verdict? CPU or mobo?

Thanks.

It could be neither, I have that problem if my psu is not plugged into my mobo just right, my mobo plug has become loose from so much abuse from switching cases and components and such. My new 8KHA+ is on the way. Make sure your psu is plugged firmly into the mobo.

I could be a variety of things.

Faliure of Motherboard, CPU, memory, Graphics card and maybee even the PSU.

The only real way will be to swap these components into a known working system.

Do all the usual stuff, reseat everything clear the CMOS move memory modules around.

Try reseating the video card first. If you have a spare video card you can try using that too. From the symptoms that you just said it might just be a problem with the video signal. Happens to me every once in a while. I'm using my old 15 in monitor that has a glitch in its cable.
