on die temp reading and the Duron

Epox Tech -
Does epox have any plans to release a bios that will read the on-die temperature from a Morgan cored Duron (which are based on the XP core, and do have an on-die thermistor built in)? Or will there be a new rev of the KT333 based board that supports this functionality??

The 8K3A supports this feature, its a little more tricky with older chipsets though i believe, you could make a diode reader, heres a link!

From everything I've read (in these forums and others) concerning the 8K3A's on-die thermistor reading capabilities, it will only read from the on-die thermistor for true AthlonXP's and Thoroughbreds. Durons, no matter whether they are Morgan or spitfire based, are measured via the in socket thermistor.
Epox Tech, am I off on this information and if I'm correct, any answers to the original questions??

thunderbird has no internal diode, im fairly sure the morgan core does, and this is also read by the 8K3A

Hi to all.
Morgan core like Palomino core has an on-die thermodiode.
EPoX Tech please tell us if you will release a BIOS supporting on-die temperature reading of Duron with Morgan core.

ET - any answer on this issue yet (ie, whether the 8K3a/+ supports reading from the morgan internal temp diode)??

*bump*

The morgan diode dosent work with 8k3a.

Im not sure if that because it works diferently to the XP diode, if it dosent work at all or if there is a problem with the board.

If you make a diode reader can you read the diode then ?

According to Hoot over at the overclockers.com forum, that won't work - if the board has an integrated reader (ie, built in) for the diode and you attempt to add an external reader (by attaching a maxim 6657 or similar chip to the cpu socket and the smbus interface), they conflict and the external reader will not work. I've actually built an external based diode reader for my 8kta3, but am still working the kinks out. I'm probably looking at upgrading in the nexxt month and would like to get the 8k3a, but if it doesn't support the diode on the morgan duron, than I probably will get an asus instead (the a7v333 supports the diode in the morgan). I'd think that supporting the morgan diode would be as simple as a bios update, but there could be other factors at play...
