Fried Tbred

Well ..did a dumb thing and fried my Tbred 2200...temps got away from me for a few seconds 185F....pc will not post...seems to have taken the board with it...do you think my other components are ok? Cards, hard drives, ram? Plus I put a new Tbred in this board and it will not post..any possible harm done to new cpu by trying it in bad board? Thanks

Hi HOLST,

At the time, all settings were default as I always clear cmos before adding anything new...this happened when I checked my unlock and switched ram from OCZ to Samsung....I had a bad seat on vapochill core..checked temps on boot and they were fine, but then they shot thru the roof all of a sudden and I caught it too late.

Can't test anything until new board arrives...worried about hard drives..2 100gb WD.. I know it doesn't take a lot to kill em...static, etc...also the new tbred ....this is getting expensive. Hoping they are all ok.

Question

Most times when this happens the cpu is the only thing that goes.
I am not saying that the mobo did not go too, Just not usually.
I do not do water cooling so I am not up to date on this.
I do extreme air cooling, and think I will stay with that.

Man it is a shame that this has happened to ya.
I had a hs/fan pop off a new system I built. Naturally it was during first boot up of this system. The cpu lasted about 3 seconds after the hs came loose.
!@?@#$
Guess this just happens.

Have to admit..it was my own stupidity. I should have monitored the temps longer to make sure it was stable because I was aware that this COULD happen. The board definitely will not post. Just hope that nothing else died.

Hi Dude,
had a similar "smoko" lately - my XP 1700 smoked away. One of those resistors on the backside of the chip nearly melt the copper die (the cpu die was absolutely ok- no heat death). The mobo was ok - whata wonder but the first HD was trash too. As a precaution I swapped the psu as it was undersized(300W) anyway. I am a bit worried about AMD quality on the decline?!

I can't blame AMD for mine..entirely my fault. I think AMD quality is actually better than ever. Remember..we are pushing this gear way beyond specs....occasional damage is just part of the game. Mine was caused by carelessness. Just the fact that you can push an 1800mhz chip to 2200+mhz with FSBs exceeding 200 ..speaks for the quality of all of the components. You simply will not get that from low quality hardware.

What were you running at when it happened..big Overclock?..highvolts? cooling? If it was stock and good cooling then ,,yeah..I would be upset and seek hardware replacement.
