High FSB = Slow Hard Disk Speed??

Hi All,

i have overclocked my 8k3a+ to 10.5 x 183 and running great, the only problem is that my raid harddisk has slowed down. I could usally get 55000 KB/s @ 166 fsb in sandra Filesystem benchmark but using 183 fsb i get 32654 KB/s.

Can anyone help???

Thanks in advance

2 x IBM GXP 82GB Harddisk as Raid 0 (16k/16k)
2 x maxtor 30GB
AMD XP 2000+ @1.9ghz, 256MB 2700 Samsung DDR
Winxp Pro, latest 4in1442v patch and PCI Latency patch ver 0.20 beta 4.

Were your previous file system benchmarks done before the Latency patch? I have heard that the VIA PCI latency patch is buggy.

Thanks for the advice

I had tried unistalling all patches and reinstall them one by one and makes no difference.

it seems to work fine using HDtach, i get the same benchmarks when i have not overclocked...

Randon Access Time = 12.5ms
Read Speed Max = 88020.2 Kps
Read Speed Min = 79040.4 Kps
Average = 74203.4 Kps

But its strange why sandra HDD benchmark shows my hard disk has gone slower.

The hard disk works fine until the fsb gets to 175 then it begins to slow down.

Sandra HDD bench is even more innacurate than sanrda memory.

If HDtach shows that your IDE performance isnt affected by the high FSB then it probably isnt.

The problem with sandra is that it dosent test components individually. Memory bandwith for example is massvely affected by CPU speed.

i have clocked down to 10.5 x 175 for now as it does not effect performace in Sandra.

i was wondering what CPU Utilization % do you get on HD TACH i usally get 45% for my raid 0 @ 16k/16k is this normal??

The best HDD bench program I've seen is the ATTO Disk Benchmark. Unlike HDTach, it both write tests and read tests.
It doesn't like XP, but then again, neither do HDTach v2.53 and v2.62!

It's available at: www.aoaforums.com/files/index.php?dir=170 .
