Simple suggestion for BIOS... (ET)

I'd like to suggest a simple feature to be added to future BIOS (if possible of course)...

What I want is to have a "field" in the BIOS frequency menu, showing the expected CPU clock (multiplier X fsb). With 1MHz increments and multiplier changes, it would be very nice not to have to use a calculator.

I think it should be possible to be done, but I've never seen it before so...

What do you guys think? Would you like to have a "CPU Speed" field in the BIOS setup ?

Epox Tech, please post your opinion and also if there is a chance to see this in future BIOS, if you can of course .

That is a good idea, I have seen it on most P4 boards and on some AMD boards and it would be nice to have it on the 8K3A+ and for that matter on all EPoX boards. I am almost sure it is very easy to implement.

i would love that. i hate having to post to see what the speed is and i can never find a calculator when i need one.

i agree that i don't think that it would be hard because on the 8k3a+ bios it tells you what the agp and the pci speeds will be with the current fsb. i'd think that it would be just as easy to do the "CPU Speed".

I very much doubt that ET will bother the bios guys with something so trivial.

Use a calculator (or even do it in your heads, its not hard)

If thats the only thing you guys can think of to improove the bios then we must be doing soemthing right.

I dont think (personally) that 9,5x178 for example would be very easy to do... Remember that not everyone runs at 200FSB and just have to do 200x multiplier... LOL

It's not that I will choose a motherboard if it has or not a CPU Speed field in BIOS but anyway, you have to admit it's handy to have such feature added.

I'm just trying to make Epox a better board anyway... I think they should pay more attention for their user's suggestions...

ET has nothing more to say than I have allready stated.

I do listen to all your suggestions, I dont necicarally agree that this one is worthwhyle, but it hasnt been ingored.

Very unprofessional reply. When we ask for things such as a divider option, or the ability to change the cpu decode, we get flamed. When we ask for a very simple, yet very handy option, you answer like this.

ANd to say that figuring say 9.5x198 in your head is easy, is simply ridiculous. Sure, anyone can figure 10x200, but not everyone can run at that.

My reply was meant as a joke, I think Spooky and nfrenay understand that.
The last thing I wanted to do is to cause offence.

But I that is my oppinion, I dont think its worthwhyle recompling and retesting the entire bios for such a trivial matter.

The procedure for editing the bios is much more complex and involved than many end users realise. You can see how long it took us to get fast command decode added to the 8k3a+ bios.

As for 9.5 x 198, its not that hard :clown:
9.5x198 = 9.5x200 - 2x9.5 = 19x100 - 19 = 1900-19 = 1881

looks much worse on paper than when done in my head.

Just kididng, you are right from your proint of view, it must be hard to add features and maybe not worth to implement this one, but it is still a good idea for future boards such as the 8K9A series, don't you think so ?

I have never compiled a BIOS or such (but for sure I would like to learn how it's done), but I'm pretty confident that this shouldn't be difficult at all to implement.
And the Fast Decode option that is probably never going to show up is probably "doable".

I think Epox is the only motherboard you have to flash different BIOS to "change settings"...

If you want to change CPU Fast Decode, flash it with 27??... If you want it enabled, then try 28?? or 2312... It's a pitty to have such a nice board with these silly problems...

Anyway... I love my board and I love 28?? BIOS . I wouldn't disable Fast Decode anyway...
