Can my PSU handle my PC??

hi all,

i currently have a Enermax 350w Psu and the following...

4 x harddisks
1 x cd writer
1 x 120mm fan
2x 80mm fan
1x 80mm for heat sink
Epox 8k3a+ and Athlon 2000XP

my voltage readings at full load are...

+5 = 4.840
+12 = 11.977
+3.3 = 3.28

are these readings ok or shall i buy the Enermax 430w Psu to be safe.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

You might want to get the more powerful PSU since you have 4 HDDs. Going with the higher 430w enermax will always be the "safest" decision but your 5v and 12v look pretty normal to me

I wouldt recomend the use of enermax with Epox boards.
ASparkle 400 watt is my prefered choice.

Dont trust the onboard voltage measurement check it with a multimeter.

If your PC is running stable then you shouldt need to upgrade your PSU.
If your having problems like soft reboot problems and instability at overclocked speeds then a new PSU may help.

the reason i did no choose the Sparkle psu is because it does not have a fan at the bottom of the psu to help with the air flow. Are there problems with the Enermax psu?

my system is stable and had no crashes or auto reboots, i have also tried overclocking to 11 x 166 and raising the voltage to 1.850 cpu and 2.80v dimm with no problems.

i'm just worried that if my psu is not providing enough power, it may will damage my system or something.

If you're not seeing reboots and other odd, unexplicable behaviour, then you're not suffering a power problem. You would know quickly if your PSU was not providing enough power for your system.

To be honest with you, hard disks don't take that much power. Fans take even less! The biggest power consumers are the CPU, GFX and chipset.

One thing that I notised when I had to little power was booting WinXP. The windows XP boot screen would first show in a weak color. But now with this extrem Antec 550W true power PSU the boot is fast and no strange underpower things. The change from 300W to 550W gave me a 100Mhz more overclock

Your 5V rail looks drained - suggest minimum 400 watt psu

No, For enermax PSUs, that's not bad at all. Anything over 4.75v is fine, as long as there aren't spontaneous reboots.

after reading your advice i have decided to get a bigger psu, i will not be getting a Sparkle cuz of no extra fan at base of psu, so its either the Enermax 430w or Antec True Power 430.

which do you think guys ^.^

Sparkle 400....

The reason the sparkle has no extra fan is that there is no more room inside, its totaly packed with usefull electronics.

Go for the true power.. 430 seems just to fill a normal system. Go for 480 or the 550 that I have.

You will lovev how quite they are.

The extra fan really isnt necessary, it just adds noise in my opnion. I took mine out and did this to my antec 350w

I have the 430w Antec TruePower and it is more than enough to power any system. It's not just total wattage we are talking about here, it's quality that counts. I personally had terrible luck with Sparkle, I had two of them just die on me. Never had a problem with Antec. To me, Antec is the best psu you can get.
