Question for my 8rda+

Hello I would either like to pick up an xp 1700 or an 1800 for my board. I hear that they can be overclocked like crazy. However it depend on which chip it is the model and the stepping. can anyone tell me which 1700 and 1800 really overclock? Also is there a site that explains what all the numbers as far as identification and dates what they all mean? would really appreciate it tks

the 1700+ JUIHB would be ur best bet.
get an 0310 or 0313.

Did you get my PM aplha?

alpha22555 17th May, 2003 12:23 AM

Thanks for all the input I guess my best bet would be some place like PC CLUB because I can go and actually see the chip I know I can to much better with mwave or newegg but I have to be sure. does anyone know if there are certain ones that don't over clock as well tks.

jcool 17th May, 2003 12:29 AM

I had 2 JIUHB DLT3C 0308 and both were lousy overclockers...
on the other hand, many people had good luck with their 0308...
The 4 lettres after 0308 seem to be very important, too - mine were RPMW... SPMW and XPMW are far better... :(

alpha22555 17th May, 2003 12:33 AM

tks for your input jcool do you know what 4 letters I should be looing for basically my rig is an Abit NF7S 1.0 rev I would like to get a 200 fsb out if it wich I don't think I will have a problem but I would like to get the chip atleast running to 2200-2300 mhz if I can do that I will be very happy Also do you know of a site that breaks dwn all the number and definitions of the chip so I know what I will be looking at when I hit the store tks...

I've had 2 DLT3C 0308 SPMW and they've both clocked to 2.4 gigs, I sold one to my friend and he managed to wring 2.5 gig out of it. :)

You asked for a guide to decipher the stepping codes earlier this is the only one I could find in my bookmark

alpha22555 17th May, 2003 01:19 AM

I have called around and it seams like I cannot find a 0310 stepping. However I found a 0312 anyone know anyhing about that particular one

tks

alpha22555 17th May, 2003 07:09 AM

Okay so here is what I got. I could not find a 0310 however I got a 0312. My overclock so for is 200x 11 wcpuid coming out to be 2205mhz I did have to raise the Vcore to get up there though. Right now my Vcore is running at 1.825 Im sure I don't want to push that up anymore my temp reads 110F. The question is how much farther should I push it. From what the numbers come out on the chip it was orginally a 2800. any suggestions on if I should push it more. Currenly running at around 110F using an Akaska Silver Mountain for cooling tks

Elisha 17th May, 2003 07:27 AM

with air don't push it more than 1.8v unless u have high end air like the slk 800.
you should be able to get at least 2.3 with 1.8v
i can do 2.4 with 1.8v with my 2100+ AUIHB 0301

alpha22555 17th May, 2003 09:47 AM

well no luck seams as though the farthest I can push this chip is 200 x11 If I even go to 205 my machine is alarming. I thought I would be able to do more I have 480w antec and 2 sticks of corsair xms 3500. Not that im complaining I mean 2200mhz is great. just thought I can get a little more but so far no luck. as far as cooling I have an slk 800 in the closet but my akaska does just fine I may only notice 5 degrees different and even after a 3dmark im only running 110 degrees F so it's not like the thing is getting super hot at all if it was like 130 I would have some concern.

Elisha 17th May, 2003 09:52 AM

trust me 5 degrees is a big difference when it comes to overclocking.

alpha22555 17th May, 2003 09:55 AM

do you think part of the problem might be that it's a 0312 and they don't overclock as well as some of the 0310 or 0308???

jcool 17th May, 2003 10:25 AM

My DLT used to need 1,9V for 2,3Ghz and it was watercooled damn well.

perc 17th May, 2003 10:30 AM

well i would have to say that your cpu is a good ocer and all that but if your using that much voltage just to get 2200 mhz out of it? then id have to say you probly would of done a little better withh a 0310 and down but dont feel bad man cause you did good and i bet if you play with it a little you may even squeeze a little more mhz out of it? see i have the 0309 XPMW DLT3C 1700 and i can run 12.5x166 @ 2088 1.5v and 11.5x200@ 2300 1.7v wich is alot less volts than what your having to use.. id just have to say that the newer steppings are going to start getting harder to oc wich is what ive allways expected? From what ive been reading the 0310 and down are the ones to look for. now i wouldnt worry too much cause you were damm lucky to find one in the first place cause everyone ive talked to has been striking out finding the 1700 DLT3C they are either soldout or the steppings they have left are no good? well man good luck and i hope you mange to get your temps down and shave off some of the voltage you having to use?

later guys.. perc.

alpha22555 17th May, 2003 10:43 AM

well here is the beautiful thing about it there were two cpu left a 0310 and a 0312 I took the 12 but reserved the 10 for 24 hours I will go and get that tomorrow and see if that oc's better :-) I will update when I get the answer

alpha22555 18th May, 2003 07:27 AM

Okay so here is the deal I picked up a 0310 and I have been having much better luck. I can get up to 2400mhz 200 x 11.5 with 1.7 Vcore. Now here is what's weird I did a 3dmark it passed with no problem I had a little over a 16,000 now for some reason I try another 3dmark and it locks up. Shut the machine dwn to make sure it was not a heat issue and same thing it rebooted itself halfway through so Im going to try a little more voltage to the chip possibly and see what I can do to get this think stable. Can anyone give me a good stress test to ensure stablility. I don't want to say my machine is stable just because I can pull a 3dmark on it. Tks Also temp is around 120 F

Blackmyst 18th May, 2003 07:40 AM

I current have a XP1800 (refer to "Project PC" for steppings.

Currently at 1.7v core, 12.5x180 = 2260mhz. I've had this running up to nearly 2500mhz @ 1.85v, but had to run RAM out-of-sync to achieve this unfortunately.

I use an SLK-900 with Vantec 92mm Tornado (with free earplugs) and it (at 2500mhz) never went over 48oC. Does that sound right?
