Our thoughts...

Me and Favu were having a little chat and we think it's best if we let out our feelings about AOA right here and now. You may not have noticed but AOA has severely slowed down and there are very few really interesting projects and threads going on for which members can contribute, we are left with daily threads about Tech News and general news and we believe that this is boring and is driving away members. Many great members have dissapeard such as Graham Garside, Logan, Mooky Dooky and this has had a big impact on the forum since vast amounts of knowledge and interest has dissapeard too.

We felt like we had to say something, how does everyone feel?

Yeah, I have to say its a sad thing how slow AOA is getting, we really do need to generate some momentum again.

Maybe by concentrating more on the cheap and overclockable components rather than the high-end stuff?

If we concentrate on the hardware which most peopel can afford then i think AOA will recieve more traffic and interest.

I do agree. I was thinking this just last night as I look through unread threads...

Most people cannot afford 500 dollar CPU's and 500 dollar video cards. I am about taking a 100 to 150 dollar CPU and give it a beating...

Exactly, i know new expensive hardware is interesting but most peopel can only dream. If we do more about overclocking value CPU's then more peopel can do it for themselves and not get too upset if it goes wrong.

It really is the way to go, the cheaper parts tend to have more OC headroom and most people really can't and don't see the point in spending so much on their hardware.

This is why I have stuck to my Mobile 2400 for so long. I am sure all the newer stuff will take it for a walk but it perfoms great and I only paid 80 bucks for it. I am looking at a 3800 x2 AM2 (per dsio) It seems to have crazy OC potential and is only 150 bucks...

I still have mine!
I'm not sure what you want us to say?

But here's the unvarnished truth. We don't turn down articles, if we need to we send them back or help re-write them...but we can't dictate what is submitted.

I cover the news that interests me. If figure it will interest a a few others. Each of us doing this does the same. Occasionally I'll link to what doesn't interest me if I'm certain I've see the interest in others, but mostly, it's about what interests me and what I think people should know or as I said might be interested in.

So what am I saying? Join the team, make your contribution front page, your impact will only be limited by your contributions frequency and how often you awaken an echo of interest in your readers...":O}.

Your input here is welcome as well, just less productive...":O}

I am in no way saying anything other than agreeing with the statement that it has been a little slow on the Overclocking part of the forum...There has been a big focus on high end components and that is great...I love high tech...

The only reason I jumped in here was to state the fact that I miss the basics. I still see from time to time some cooling questions and issues with max OC but not like it used to be. Maybe it has all been said..I'm not sure. I am in no way complaining..just stating what I miss and would like to see more of. Maybe I need to input more. Start more threads. Stir up conversation.

My apiologies if I stated something in a way that made me seem ungrateful. I love this place..It is my home away from home.

I am a little miffed. I have posted various things that could have been news items suitable for the front page. Yet they don't get any attention, maybe 2/3 posts.
I also re-submitted my Epox Article (apparently it didn't go through last time) and I'm still not hearing anything about it, and it's a bit silly I have to bother Pitch about it.

Got Epox, I'm confused as to why everyone keeps mentioning missing Mookydooky.
The guy hasn't posted since before you signed up.

Then contact who ever you submitted it to and ask them, if it's Pitch, give a little time to recuperate.

AP you have to realize that it takes a little time to read over and format.Plus I have been told that these guys do have a life outside AOA. (The nerve of some people...) My last article took a little time to get posted.

Spot on, sir!

This was exactly my point - AOA is really my home away from home too, and I am worried that there seems to be a general slowdown in terms of forums posts and new topics, especially at hours when people in Europe are generally awake, I just want things to speed up again

Many of us that bought Athlon 64 setups, a while back are still using them. When I first got my A64 there was a great deal of talking about them and trying to understand them. Daniel~, GrahamGarside, Pitch, Danrok, many many many others all had similar setups to me, and we were all discussing them.

These days the big ticket is Conroe. Problem is, nobody is buying Conroe. Its too expensive, the motherboards around right now are doing the CPUs no justice at all, and not that many people are intrested. The final nail in the coffin is that intel is still not well liked.

When I get some time after I finish the semester, in about 5-6 weeks, I'll be here heaps, heaps more, and I'll even do a few reviews of the 3600+ AM2 dualcores I've been playing with. When DX10 comes out, expect a great deal more discussion.

This really hasn't been a time to upgrade.

I built my system in 2004, and although two years old, my 3200+ is still on sale, and 2.6Ghz on an Athlon 64 is still respectable. My 6800GT, is still current, both in performance and technology, and I couldn't be arsed switching sockets, memory types, or to PCI-E when I don't have to.

When AMD releases some Conroe competitive hardware they will force prices down, which will benefit all of us. My next upgrade is going to be a quad core chip, most likely AMD, as I believe they will scale better than intel, an Nvidia G80, and an Nvidia motherboard.

The market has been stale for a long time now, conroe or not.

In any case, AOA is not going anywhere.
