what game to get?

hi all,

recently i got ~$40 bucks to blow on a game. i got a very nice video card a while back. sapphire radeon 9600xt w 256mb. i'd like to overclock it.

i don't know what game to get. the review i read before getting it said that splinter cell runs nicer on the 9600 than anything else. and it is one of my fav games. but i already have it for xbox and ps2.

i don't like unreal tournament. the i have gta for xbox and that's not very graphic intensive.

i like timesplitters 2 which i have for the xbox. as you can probably tell i'm not a gamer. i don't know what games are out there. i hate halo.

i heard a star wars game was pretty good. any other FPS game out there that's graphics intensive?

What about Doom 3 or Half-Life 2 which is out soon? Then there's FarCry.

doom3 scares the crap outta me. that's why i'm not a big fan of UT. is half life a FPS game with multiplayer capability?

Half-Life 2 will be coming out in September. Yes, it is a FPS (though also sorta scary but not in a Doom kind of way.) Have you heard of Counter-Strike? That game was originally a mod for the orignal Half-Life. I'd even go so far as to say that Half-Life is the one game that you can get the most multiplayer play time out of (considering each of the mods and add-ons that go with it.) I'd wait the month and go pick up Half-Life 2.

i got UT2004 today. it's pretty cool. no problems yet.

what's a good FPS rate?

Hooray! Another UT2k4 player on the forums. Soon enough we might be able to have 2004 games instead of the far inferior UT2003 that seems to be the game of choice around here.

I just can't justify spending $40 on the few changes that they have made between 2k3 and 04. For me the differences aren't worth that much. Maybe if 2k5 has some awesome amazing new things i will buy but 2k4 isn't different enough.

i would've gotten UT2k3 but i couldn't find it in the stores. i know with the UT games, every year they come out with a new one with minor upgrades.
