Thumbs up Rome: Total War

Just got this game and I have to say it looks amazing, apart from the world map screen, they've gone for a 3d aproach which doesn't look as good as the risk style map from medieval.
I was disapointed with the frame rate at first it either ran at 40fps low detail or 20 fps at anything above that so I just whacked it on full, then I realised I'd left my cpu underclocked to 800mhz not tried it to see the differance yet but it should be better
One thing though, it forces you through a tutorial before you can play anything in it which is a bit fustrating, I've played both total war games before it and though it's differant I would sooner work it out as I go rather than be baby sat through it. thumbsup though

How about writing a review for us to publish front page Graham? We would be ever so grateful!

Just read your review. I'm a first person shooter type of guy. But if it were in my budjet I'd give this one a try. I think you made it very clear what you felt it strong points are as well as where it fits in the evolution of this type of gameing. Many thanks Graham!

I've played the first version of this game and that was very well made. Might have to take a look at this one.

I got doom 3 I'll get working on that tomorrow
how recent would a game need to be for a review to be useful?
I've got quite a big game collection (I live near a pawn shop and a game shop that sell 2nd hand games and I know the owners so I get 1st refusal) most of them are a few months old (max payne 2, farcry, X2, toca race driver 2 and UT2004) but there isn't a big collction of game reviews here if you'd want me to do them, and I pick up the new releases all the time but they aren't always just out

I would suggest that you PM Aedan before starting on a review - just in case someone else is also reviewing that particular game. Last thing we would want is for someone to waste their time duplicating the same work.

What Danrok said. Also, reviews of older games can be useful. Although most of us have pretty recent hardware, we also generally help out a lot of people who do not. Knowing what games are worthwhile and what games aren't, even older ones, can be useful.
