Smile Wanted: Game developement team members

Hi all,
I've been thinking about setting up a game developement team. I was wondering if anyone is interested. At the moment, i need some model designers, some coders/scripters (c-script which is 3D gamestudio language ot C++ which is a higher level language), some level designers, some skin and texture designers and some general advisors to advise the whole team if they get stuck with something. Basically, a team of about 11 (12 if you include me). If you are wanting to be a level designer, you will need to have a program called 3D gamestudio (version 5.20 or above). If you want to apply for any other part, then you will need the relevant tools to produce the 'items' for your 'department'. If you are interested or know someone who may be interested, just post in here stating the job you would like and i'll let you know more.

I'd appreciate if you'd post this on other forums. All are welcome to apply.

Thanks,
Scott.

I have C++ experience, but I hate it with a passion unmatched by any relationship between man and any other thing (real or imagined) that takes up space in this or any other existence.

So while it sounds really cool, I'm afraid I come up a tad short in any type of usefulness for the project. Good luck, though!

LOL! C++

I've worked with C++ programmers, they are a breed apart!

I much prefer Delphi.

well may i recommend some other parts for you? Texture artist? Model designer? Model skin designer? I would like to learn C++ as it is a very high level language and could be put to very good use but it is quite tough i imagine. I do really want this project to take off the ground (not literally although we could create a space FPS). I don't have a name for the team yet (and no team members) but i'm sure we could think of a suitable logo and name for it. If the games we produce are good enough, they may even get published to the whole world (unlikely but i know someone who this has happened to). As a team member though, you'll have amost full access to other parts being produced by a differentpart of the team. You will get full credit for anything you contribute (as long as it's something worthy (if you produce a lot of textures that look good then that's great).

I am mainly a level designer as i prefer to do visual things while the coders/scripters make the things accessible and useable. I can also modify weapons and i've already modified quite a few; i made a UMP special edition the other day which looks brilliant.

I won't need any general advisors until the rest of the team is assembled. As for payement, there is none but you'll get loads of credit for your work which could result in a good paying job producing whatever it is you produced for the games. But yeah, i would like quite a good range of people for the different jobs.

Thanks,
Scott.

Mapping for Source I can do. I'm not offering my services, I really wouldn't have enough time. It's all quite time consuming.

Here's a few screen shots of a map I'm working on at the moment for CS:S:

Ive got a great deal of experience using the Unreal Engine. Mainly DeusEx, but recently ive been tinkering with UT2004 maps.

Could I be of any use as a mapper?

NOTE: Im in my senior years at school, so my time is limited, though weekends are usually free.

That would be perfect! i'll pm you in a bit with more details. Will you be able to output them as .map files or will you be using the 3d gamestudio program?

I will be asking for your details in the PM just so that when (or if) other team members join up, they know who they are working with. I'll do this with all members of the team. I'm also getting to the later years of school (just this year and next then i can leave but i'm gonna stay on for further education) so i'm usually only free at weekends and after about 4.30 PM GMT. I do have MSN messenger though so i will be able to contact you on that if you have it.

I am still offering places to anyone who wants one (or more). There is obviously time difference to deal with but i'm willing to get some turbo truffles to stay awake until late. I really do need some coders and model designers thouh before we can do anything so the places are still available.

What game are we modding, or are we making a game based on what engine?

well it's the game maker engine and it's going to be a fully new game but we can take characters from other games, change the format and then insert them into the game. You can use any tool that can output the file as a quake .map file but i would recommend 3d gamestudio but if you can't afford that or would rather use another tool, that's fine with me. We will be sharing the maps and game resources between us so there will need to be some communication between the team. We could mod another game but it's if we can get a converter to change the map, models, skins, textures, etc. formats to the formats we need. Most can be downloaded online though so there isn't much of a problem there.

I think it's called the gamestudio engine which is a modified version of the quake engine i think but i can't be really sure. The engine doesn't really matter for it though because as long as the objects and maps are in the correct format, it will run them how they are supposed to be run. you simply build a map in a format it can run (or convert it to one it can run) and the engine will do the rest. The current map formats supported are:

.MAP
.QLE (quake levels i think)
.$$M
.WMB (this format is used by 3d gamestudio and includes all entities/models)

That's it i think but as long as they are converted in any of those formats, i don't care what program you use to create them.

I haven't encountered it before, but this looks like it:
http://www.conitec.net/a4info.htm

You would be looking at $899.00 for the full package per user/developer by the look of it.

yeah, that's the one. It is expensive, my version isn't the latest one, i got it a while ago. I have said that they don't have to use this program though, they can use any as long as it can be converted to the correct format. Right, now i have another level designer, a C/C++ programmer and someone else who i have yet to speak to about it, that's four already. Still need some more though. I'll introduce the whole team in an MSN convo in a few days. The person who i still have to speak to goes to my school i think, i was told about them by a friend who has been signed into MSN for over 6 months, they never signed off, not once. And then all of a sudden, out of the blue, they just went offline. They were back online the next day though. Anyway, i still need some more people for the team to be complete. I might not be online tomorrow because of a backup and reinstallation of XP, so if not, you know why. But there are still places open. You can sign up at my site if you want: http://yowzagames-mark2.co.uk , just follow the instructions to enter the site then on the first page, just click the 'read more' link on any of the news articles and read about latest news. In there, there is a link to sign up. It will open in a new window so just let it through any popup blocking software. Please fill in all the fields and i'll get back to you ASAP.

well, the c-scripter i have from another forum has said that he has worked with C++ before but doesn't have much experience. He says he's going to learn C-script instead so that's no problem.
