tank sims?

Hi all,
I'm looking for any free good tank sims. I want something where i can play it online with other players, using just tanks to destroy each other as well as offline against the computer. I want realistic handling, a bit like in BF2 (i've played the demo) but just with tanks. I want good environments, fog and smoke filled battlefields, enemy tanks approaching, trees, 3d grass and clouds.

Now you have a description, any recommendations?

I never played a better tank sim than BF2. You should try this game dude!

M1A1 Abrams was good, but not free... was a good while ago that game. But was a good pure tank sim. Operation flashpoint has some good tanking about it, but maybe not as realistic. Never heard of a free tank sim, barely even heard of an out and out tank sim :\

I found one called BZFlag which is funny, i had it working yesterday, but now it doesn't start and just crashes miserably with an error report dialog. Event viewer tells me:

Faulting application bzflag.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module dinput.dll, version 5.1.2600.1106, fault address 0x00015a2f.

Anyone got a solution? Nothing on my system has changed, nothing hardware wise and nothing software wise, i was really enjoying it as well.

Sorry i didn't get back to you earlier, a restart seems to fix the problem with BZFlag. And i'll be sure to have a look at the site you gave me toro.

there also seems to be a few Abandonware tank sims kicking about
