FarCry and my system = .....

Earlier, i went on FarCry. All the settings were at very high, ultra high or high (some of each) but the main ones were at very high. I also had 2 x AA and 1 x AF.

I also had fraps running, so i could film how good my rig was at running FarCry. I now have a result to show to the whole of AOA. This video proves that although my graphics card isn't great, FarCry can take advantage of the other system components to boost performance, which it does a great job of.

The video itself i made is in WMV9 format (the file itself is compressed using WinRAR) and is about 2 minutes and 9 seconds long. It's also about 20Mb which is ok if you are on broadband but i'm quite proud of how my system coped running at the settings it was using.

Just on a side note, i only had developer mode enabled for the purposes of this demo, so i could enable GOD mode so i didn't die half way through and i could use all the weapons and have enough ammo.

The file should be up at AOAFiles soon and i'll post a link to it when it is downloadable.

this is the first video i've made, or even made an attempt at and i think i did quite well. This demo is designed to show off the physics engine, the dynamic lighting effects, the special effects, the environment rendering and of course, my skill in the game

Why did you upload it as an .EXE?

It's an EXE so it self-extracts, it was compressed using winrar and only contains the WMV file. It's only to make it smaller for uploading and downloading. Download and see if you like.

And as for modding FarCry, i haven't got any further than changing the title music but i have been thinking about starting that again. I just need to find out what else can be modded. I'm thinking about the textures now, make it kinda like an alien landscape but with no changes to the shape or inhabitants of the islands (ok, only the hired goons and that crazy old biotechnics dude). But, it's actually finding the files which match up with each texture or sound.

And Robbie, could you send me a link to the page with the file i uploaded so i can add it here for others to see?

thanks,
Scott.

The only issue is that certain AV programs mistakenly pick the self extracting file up as a virus...

ahhh, well i don't know if i'll have time to upload before i go to work. It may be after i get back that i have to upload it.

EDIt: i'm uploading the movie itself now, it's WMV file and should arrive at the 'parking bay' (or whatever it's called) soon.

I can unpack it, and allow people to download the unpacked version. (or offer it as a ZIP file)

Looking good on your system Scott, just shows how versatile the Far Cry engine can be.

Yeah, shooting at the light to get it to bounce around was very thoughtful. Looks good.

Well i did that to show just what dynamic lighting is like in FarCry. If it was doom 3, i would have probably have done the same. I'm now planning a second video which is going to have some music to it; Take a look around by Limp Bizkit (MI2 theme). This time it's going to be basically to show off Physics Engine this time, lots of hired goons, empty oil drums and explosions galore! It may involve developer mode and flying around the island to get the best effects but there we go, i'm that type of person, I like special effects.

I love the Crytek engine, one of my favorite. Unfortunately, I leant the game away for a friend to try. That was nearly 6 months ago -.-

Very nice video mate. I am uploading now a video (3 actually because of the size) that shows you how HDR goes in FARCRY and what difference does it make. It'll be up soon, check here later.

Cool, can't wait to see it!

If Leadtek accept my request, then i'll be getting a review sample of a 7900GTX! Before it's even available to the public! And don't worry, there will be benchmarks and statistics galore! Then i'll show you just how good FarCry can be, all settings at the max! Either that, or i'll spend £200 and get a 7800GT, settings still at max though. Perhaps i may try my hand at the F.E.A.R demo, or BF2. Or if there's any better games between now and then, i'll go and get one of them, hopefully it'll be a system hog like all the good games are (by good, i mean F.E.A.R, BF2, etc.)

Slightly off topic but still to show what FarCry can do. Maybe FarCry 2 will be out by then!
