Battle for Middle Earth II

The Lord of the Rings movies and books have spawned numerous games for the the various platforms. Thankfully, most have been very good and the Battle for Middle Earth released in 2003 only added to the already great games that existed.
A RPG based on the Command and Conquer Generals engine, BFME was a prettily detailed game, it was engrossing enjoyable and online play was a joy to behold.
EA, I have to say, did a great job of the game.

But there were some thnigs I found annoying. My two biggest gripes were the measly small armies and the inability to build where you wished. BFME II seems to have addressed these issues. You can now build within a large radius of your Fortress, and by adding more Fortresses you can extend this area.
You can also create rather large armies, the command points increase as you add more resource centres (e.g Farms).
It also adds the ability to organise your army rather than sending them into battle with no real organisation.
BFME II is also as pretty as the original, in fact, on full settings it looks gorgeous. Units are well detailed and the environments are realistic and attractic.
I do have some gripes. Firstly, this isn't an easy game at first. Even on Easy with a handicap of -50%, your opponent attacks you straightaway. So if you have high hopes of building big castles and towns, think again. It's much more advisable to build up a defensive army first.
Secondly, some of the units seem oddly sized. Some of the Orcs are three or four times the size of the men. It looks strange to see a battalion of 30 or so men fighting 4 Orcs the size of Trolls.
Anyhow, BFME II is a competent successor to the original. With sparkling and intuitive gameplay, added modes such as "War of the Ring" and excellant graphics, it's not only a must for LOTR fans, but for any games ethuthiast.

I have the demo, I'm happy myself to say, its EVERYTHING
the first should have been.

Great review though bud...we should play sometime, as I'm
picking up my full copy within the week.

Sweet. I'll send you a PM within a week and we can setup date/time from there. Mind if I post some in-game pics of our match on this thread?

Of course!
I cannot do Wednesdays, Thursday or Saturday evenings due to work. Best time for me is Monday, Tuesday, Friday Evenings, Sunday Evenings and Saturday daytime.
If anyone else gets this game, that'd be great too!

I can say middle of next week....maybe Friday, we'll see.

I forget, does the game support spectator mode?
We could get somebody to get us some FRAPS footage while
we play

Alright Pumpkin....so you and I have a date with destiny.

Check it out everybody, place your bets now!!!
I need figures, I want odds.....who do you thinks gonna win?
Once I confirm the date and time with Pumpkin, I'll post the info
in case anybody is interested in viewing.

I'm going to be either Mordor or Men. Hmmm. Mordor is easier in attack but harder to defend. Men are very good in attack but it takes a long time to build them up, making them vulnerable in early stages.
A no rush of 10 Minutes maybe?

We'll see, I still need to get a feel for the "improved" armies, and structures. I've only played the demo, but my copy is sitting at home. Give me a week to play, I'll use all the races and make my preference.

In BFME I was either mordor or Isengard. The great thing
about Mordor is being able to pump out soo many orcs within the first few minutes of the game. You could surround and overtake a base easily. The problem is if they were a race with walled encampments (something mordor isnt) so you were up a creek wasting your time with the orcs.

Bring out a few archers, or some calvary...your screwed,
then the enemy would proceed to come to your base, while you try to produce quality units....and you get your assed kicked.

So I'll see how I handle the new units. I like the mountain giants for goblins....but we'll see.

Once I get my feel for the game, we'll bargain on rushes, maps and settings.

EDIT: I realize I"m quite addicted to RTS'. Best rec on BW was 382-47 pwn

Mordor Orcs are no longer free Seperah! So it's a little harder than that now!

I'm off to get some practise hehe....

I tried it twice, and both times my wireless link dropped. I'm not trying again.

Not me then. I'm on wireless too Dsio. My wireless is awesome, but I'm only on a 1mbps connection. It takes an hour to upload my music, yet alone a 1.5Gb demo.
Sorry.
